superman returns

I liked it but it lacked the magic of the original. They should have had more action and less filler. What really drove me nuts was that.........

Superman had to have his ass saved twice. Fist by Lois and then by the kid. WTF was Brian singer smoking when he thought of this ?

I still thought it was a good movie overall but not great like it should have been     What did you guys think ?

I thought it was crappy!  I think some of it was my own fault for getting all hyped up for it and it not meeting my expectations.  I thought that it had too much love/back story and not enough action.  It reminded me of Pearl Harbor (the movie not the actual battle).  The CG was great and Kevin Spacey did a good job as Lex.  I liked his interpretation of Lex more smart ass leader than evil villian. I give it 2 out of 5 stars.  Back to you Roger Ebert.

Spacey wasn't half as entertaining as Hackman.  Following Hackman is always a mistake.

After watching five years worth of Smallville earlier this year, I went in with a different version of the mythos in my head. Once I got over the differences in back story, I managed to enjoy the film. I'd still have prefered to see a Smallville version of the characters, but overall, I still liked it. Solid 8/10 from me.

Lois says that she moved on because Superman left.  Fair enough but how fast exactly did she move on?  If Superman had his way with her to make said kid.  Then left.  How long did it take for her to notice?  Then find a guy stupid enough to think it was somehow his kid.  It'd have to be within a month.

So, let me recap:

Lois notices she's pregnant
Lois finds dumb guy to think it's his kid

Doesn't make much sense to me.

I was kind of under the impression that Lois wasn't sure who the father was until it the events in this movie.  I thought she was just getting around.

Superman movies...they're hard to make, I presume. Half the fans want superman to kick some ass, and the other half believes it's time that he does something different.

How do you make an exciting movie about someone who can't die? Granted, the action scenes were pretty cool, but I never found myself actually getting into the movie.  I was too tired of the recurring theme of superman's honor, bravery, etc. It's no one's fault really, it's just hard to make a superman movie.

See, spider man, batman, dare devil, x men, etc. all have inner conflicts and need to judge situations before acting. Do I try to keep as many alive as possible, or do I kill the villain to prevent further danger? With superman, it would seem that everything is spelled out for him, as he has hardly any real enemies. Saving a jet, protecting people from a falling object, etc. There are no real threats.

This was one of the worst superhero movies I've seen (disregarding the special effects of the older movies, they couldn't help it). I've never really been a fan of superman. I wonder if anyone really is.

That said, who can't wait to see spider man 3?

The death in the comic (which, really, is the primary place he has always lived).

And look at that, he came back, just like Jesus... who he is fairly obviously modeled after.

I haven't really read his comics...maybe I would have a better opinion of him if I did. Whenever he steps into the other comics I read (which happens to be almost every two issues or something), he is always the leader, and always knows exactly what to do. Nothing wrong with this, it's just that I don't find that kind of story entertaining.
Do you read his comics?

And, comparing superman to jesus...I've never heard anyone say that, but I agree. Both are leaders and protectors. And both have a pretty strong opinion about everything (not open to other views). Have you read Kingdom Come? Superman disregards the beliefs of others when 'saving the world'. In his view maybe, but...


Superman's not a bad character...he upholds his values no matter what. He's just not entertaining (to me).

Both are only sons sent to Earth by their father to protect the innocent.  Both raised by simple blue collar folks unaware of the child's origin.  Both are based on a complete superiority and moral underpining that they present as unquestionable.  Both make every effort to remain humble in the face of flocks of reverent followers.  Both died and were resurrected.  Both prove their pedigree by performing unexplainable miracles that no one else can or has ever been able to duplicate.

You can keep on going for quite a while.  There are actually more similarities than differences.  There are University level classes that study Superman as a modern interpretation of Jesus specifically but also a more generic religious icon.

While I can't disagree that Superman may have been somewhat modelled after Jesus, I don't think these reasons count.  Superman died something like 50 years after the comic was created, the original creators obviously did not intend for him to ever die, this is something they just thought to do recently to make his character more interesting.  Also, several other heroes and enemies have been able to duplicate Supermans powers: Superwoman, SuperKid, Zod, or anyone else who came from krypton.

That's right.  You follow a model for a while and then as the character evolves you pick and choose aspects of the model that work.  Superman doesn't make water into wine either.

 I barely remember the older superman movies.  And never really read comics..

 I watched this movie only because it was released in stereoscopic Imax 3D.

 I didnt have high hopes of liking the movie..   more or less I just went
to see the 3d effects.  Sadly, the entire film wasnt 3d.. only 4 sections.

 The 3d was pretty decent... tho a little buggy due to the convertion
instead of actucally being filimed in 3d.  Still, It was cool to see
a decent film in 3d.. rahther than the substandard Imax 3d clips.

 (The Polor Express in 3d Was the Bomb!    )

 The moive, turned out much better than I expected.  I didnt realize
this was a continuation rahter than some remake.   Some
cool ideas here...   very well done.

 I especially liked that the Kid is now Part human and part superbeing.  IF they can somehow
kill off Superman...  the Kids adventures could make for some interesting adventures,
as he would have much more weaknesses.  This would open up many more possibilities.

 As it stands,  Superman is truely Too powerfull.  Its hard to believe his character lasted as
long as it did.
