Intro movies in MALA (I know....again?)
« on: November 26, 2006, 10:10:03 am »
I've done several searches and can't seem to find out why I can't get an intro movie to play in MALA.  It's in WMV format (also in AVI as I converted it to see if that helped).  I tried all the codecs found in these forums (XVID, FFDShow, etc.) to no avail.

I'm running a 2.6 GhZ processor with 512 Mb of RAM.  I have a GeForce 5200 video card.

THe videos play fine in Windows Media Player, but have a ton of stutters in MALA.  The XVID codec played the audio fine, but the video froze on the opening screen.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as this has become more of a pain than I expected.

TIA!!

Have you tried any movies besides the one giving you trouble?

There was a lengthy thread a while back about this issue - most of the emuMovies releases WILL have problems in MALA.

The MAME intro videos, however, play fine.  If those videos work for you, then you know you have things configured correctly, and your problems most likely come from the encoding on the video.

First, go here and download one of the MAME release sample vids:

http://www.emumovies.com/Arcade_Releases.htm

Then, rename the sample vid so you can see if it works in your MALA setup.

If it DOES work, then you know you're configured correctly and the problem is in the way MALA is interacting with the codec.  See the LAST message in this thread:

http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=60128.0

. . .where a method is documented for converting to a format that plays nice with MALA.

Good luck!
