Nintendo DS question

Is there any difference at all between the original DS and the DS lite? I'm looking for any and all differences - even hackability and such.

I'm looking at buying an original DS because they can be had for cheaper. I just want to know if there's anything I'm missing out by not getting the latest and greatest.

If it's of any importance, I have a GBA and a few games. I'd be selling the GBA to get the DS, but I'd probably want to keep the games. Otherwise I could sell the games and get one of those mod carts. I'll just have to research the issue. Any input on that subject would be helpful, too.

Some complaints I've heard about the original DS were that the buttons and D-pad feel mushy.  I think the styles is longer in the light versions, making it easier to hold.  The screens are brighter on the light as well...hence why its light and not lite.

I'm in love with my DS Light.  I'd say it's worth the few extra bucks.

Oh and hackablility.  They are about the same.  There are card devices for the LITE that sit flush to the unit...I'm not so sure the same exist for the original....but I've been wrong so many times in this post that I'm just gonna give up.

There are cards for the DS that sit relatively flush to the system.  The buttons and Dpad do feel noticeably different to me, and I prefer my DS Lite much more.

As for hackability, they are the same.  Both can use passme devices and both can be flashed.  You need the newest flashme for the DS Lite, but you should be using that anyway.  Both are easy to flash and work just fine.

The DS Lite screen is worth the extra cost BY FAR.  It is so much nicer, its like a completely different system.  I like the look of the lite, and the smaller form factor, but the screens are worth it more than anything else.

The screen on the Lite is amazing. I own an original and have played with a Lite, and I personally prefer the controls on the old style though. I thought the Lite felt kind of cramped compared to my fat DS. Of course though, that's completely subjective and will vary from person to person. I would still get a Lite if given the chance though (the screen is that much better).

I also prefer the controls on the DS and am perfectly happy with the screen, even if it isn't as nice as the lite's.  But then I was also happy on my original game boy advance with an afterburner installed when everyone else I knew got the newer clamshell GBA (I forget its name).

I didn't have a DSphat but I can tell you the screen on the lite is awesome.  I have it on the second to lowest brightness setting.  If I am in sunlight with the brightness all the way up it is playable.

We have 2 lites and 1 phat in the house and the lite is a much better unit.  The screens are a huge difference and the d-pad feels better.  I think the batteries in the lite seem to last longer too, even with the screen brightness cranked up.

FYI the battery in the original DS is 850Mah compared to 1000Mah in the DS Lite.

i picked up a DS lite on black friday and i'm very impressed with it.  i compared it to my friend's DS, good stuff.  i know this is kind of getting sidetracked here, but can anyone recommend me some good games to get for the DS.  i have the new super mario bros, and brain age for right now.  i would like to pick up a few ones.  sorry, but no pokemon titles.  hahaha

Mario Kart, Animal Crossing, Super Mario 64, and if you have wifi, Metroid Prime-Hunters. The one player on Hunters isn't that good, but the multiplayer is great.

If you have any inkling towards music/rhythm games, then give Elite Beat Agents a try.  This game has kept me busy for hours at a time.
