« on: November 14, 2006, 08:35:27 am »
Hi,

I created a new section on my  web site  called "Documentation".

Where you can find latest AtomicFE documentation done by Havok  and Gonzobrian!

Thanks for their great work!  :D

Do you guys know if an older version of MAME (say pre-v.83) can be used with AtomicFE?

I tried setting up Atomic a while back, but admittedly didn't take the time needed to get it going properly.  I'm currently running MAME V.83, which I believe was before xml started being used.

The docs for Atomic look great and if I need to finally upgrade my version, I'll certainly do it.

Thanks.

And.....

The doc says 2ghz cpu is recommended, but doesn't say what the minimum is. Has anyone run/tested this bad boy on say 500-900mhz?

I'm having an issue with my menus...they're in French.

I see this issue on the troubleshooting page of the new docs, but reinstalling the app doesn't seem to solve the problem.

Any other suggestions?

Okay, so I solved both issues above.  The answer to the MAME pre-v.83 question is yes, it works with older versions.

The answer to my second question is yes, I did need to uninstall and reinstall the app for the english language option to appear.  I'm not sure why it didn't work upon the first reinstall, but at least it works now.

A third question that I have is by adjusting the speed sensitivity on the mouse/trackball control in AtomicManager, it still seems to stick a bit...no matter what speed it's set to.

Any thoughts on this?

Thanks.

AtomicFE , the FE itself , can work very correctly from a PII 300Mhz.  Then it depends on the layout you use and of course the emulator you use.   If you try to make run chanckast on your PII... i won"t really work.

Personally i use Atomic each day on a Celeron 533Mhz which is my development machine for that project...

I think it is with you we tried Atomic on a Pentium 1 200Mhz?  And the FE itself "worked"  even if it was not really usable in combination with emulator you used ?

I'm going to check that.  What you mean bu it seems to "stick" a bit?

Up to this point, I have been using Mamewah.  In that FE, you can literally spin the trackball fast and the game list would fly (read: move very fast) through the list of games.

Yes that was me! I am surprised you remember. I did get it to work, but like you said it wasn't all that use-able. I have since been trying DOS on those old computers but I'm about to give up on them. I do have several comps in the 5-900mhz range that I was asking about tho, and now I am definitely going to use your FE! It's by far the best on the "market" in my opinion. And these docs only improve it.   ;D

Ok, i checked.  Here is how to proceed.

To increase the sensitivity of your trackball move the "spinner/Trackball/mouse" sensitivity slide to the LEFT.
That won't change the speed of the gamelist scrolling but i changes the moment of the move detection. Said , if you rotate the trackball with an angle of 10° it will be considered as a "move" , if you change that parameter you can make it detect an angle of 5° .  I don't know if i'm reallty clear here...  :-[  In fact it is a kind of "reaction" time.

Then to speed up the scrolling in the list.
-check "advanced options" check box on the "general tab"
-go on the "Advanced Tab"
-go on the Atomic <0.15 tab  (even if you are using Atomic 0.18 or more)
-Decrease the "key repeat delay"  , put as exemple 10  instead of 100.

Save and close.  And it should be really faster.

By combining both parameters you should be able to set the trackball behavoir as you want.
But i'm not sure it will be as good as MameWah.

I have to improve that kind of setting because it is not so obvious...  :-[

I hope it helps.

I did need to uninstall and reinstall the app for the english language option to appear.  I'm not sure why it didn't work upon the first reinstall, but at least it works now.

I just dug into this one, and it appears that you can just delete the <executable name>.lang file and re-run the application. On the next run, it will prompt for language, and should set it properly. However, this is on a fully working setup. I have run across times when a re-install was necessary. I'll update the documentation on the next revision to add this.
