Grrr...
« on: November 13, 2006, 12:52:33 pm »
I moved from south Texas up to the Dallas, TX area a little over two years ago. I had no way to to move my MAME machine so I sold it to the fraternity I was a member of for $500 (about half the cost it took me to build it).

Within a month, they had destroyed it. It has sat there lifeless in the frat house for nearly two years. They really liked it, but there's no way they could take care of it. They simply aren't that responsible. (In the same time frame, they crashed 3 computers I had donated and I'm just now getting around to helping them fix those.)

Now I'm trying to buy back some of the parts out of it (specifically the monitor and the encoder) so I can finish some projects of my own, but they're not interested. They are insisting that they want to get it cleaned up and fixed so they can use it for themselves. However, none of them has the ability to do that. They don't know where to start. They are all 100% clueless.

Without me, that thing will remain a lifeless brick for the next 10 years until they decide to throw it away. I think they even want me to look into fixing it for them (which of course will never happen because I don't even live there anymore).

Still, I sold it fair and square so there's nothing I can do except complain to you guys about it...  :banghead:

How did they destroy it?

Well is used Win98 which they managed to crash. Plus they never took care of it during parties and it became a beer shelf - holding 10 cups at a time and inevitably spilling everywhere (over and over). I'm pretty sure the encoder is damaged since it's mounted to the underside of the control panel. The PS/2 trackball might also be a lost cause. The machine would have been better offer wasting away in a warehouse.

I'm not going to help them fix it. I'm already upset with what they did to it the first time around. I'm not putting more work into just to see that happen again. They can either pay me to fix it or watch it take up space.

I don't know how they think they're going to be able to fix it. Maybe they think I'll help. yeha right...

Exactly! The last thing they needed to do was be messing with it. But ehy also crashed every single PC on a network I put toether for them. They're completely irresponsible so why should I bother?

They told me they might lose the whole house soon if they can't come up with money to pay for property tax and national dues. I'm content to just let that happen.

Then maybe you can get it back in the auction.

Even better, get the house at auction.  Then charge them a quarter to get in and out of the door.

Even the house is in sorry shape. I think the appraised value is below $40,000. It's in the ghetto.

I'm going to make a final offer, but that will be the end of it.
