MsPacMan Cabaret cab restore worth it?
« on: November 07, 2006, 03:13:55 pm »
There's a MsPacMan cabaret cab up on ebay, pretty close to where I live. It has a 13" monitor working, controls, and a marquee. Has no side art, PCB, harness, bezel, and has a crappy CPO. If I could get this for, say, $200, would the cost of the restore be worth it? Does anyone make side art for the MsPacMan Cabaret?

How much can one buy a good condition MsPacMan Cabaret for, compared to the cost of restoring this one. I have always wanted a MsPacMan, but as the capitalistic ---tallywhacker--- I am, I want to know if I can get a better deal. I figure it will cost about $100 for the PCB, another $20-30 for the harness, and god knows how much for sideart.

You can pick up a working one at an auction for $500. I sold one not too long ago with no CP art for $400.  It was original. I sold one for $500 with a Jamma setup inside, but repaired on the outside.

I bought one and put a Jamma arrangement in there.  I put $200 worth of NON standard parts, but it worked okay.  Somebody on the boards here bought it at the Knoxville auction.

Caberet models don't have side art.  But they have a really expensive marquee that's special.  The CP can be made with a good printer.  I have a scan of it too. It does have two pieces.  I think you can even get the art on the artwork site we have.  Just print it out and put a piece of Plexi over it and nobody will be the wiser.

If you refirb it to spec, I have the bottom power assembly I'd sell you very cheap.  It works too.

"Worth it" to what?  Resell?  Probably not.  For your own project and personal satisfaction to restore?  Up to you.  Do you like Ms. Pac?

twobits.com is pretty much the sole source for Ms. Pac (and all Pac) art due to licensing.  They have all the parts you need and they do add up in cost.

For the sideart, according the pic on klov:

http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?letter=M&game_id=8782

Ms. Pac cabaret does not have sideart - just the woodgrain vinyl.  If you need to replace that, they are several potential sources.  Getting an exact match to the original woodgrain should be either easy or very difficult.  arcadeshop.com has some vinyl and is a good place to start.

He wants and enjoys talking about arcade machines and wants advise of people with the same interests as he does. I'd rather you just didn't comment and force me to point out that YOU didn't need to comment in a negative mannor for no reason. If this was my thread and you took the time to post only to ---smurfette--- i think i would have to smack you up something nasty.

I wouldn't buy a cab with really poor original art and with a bad PCB, i would expect to put a new monitor in regardless of what cab i got so that is no problem for me.. It all comes down to how much you want it combined with what you can get your hands on.

If you think it will be fun to rebuild a cab and enjoy working on something, who cares what anyone thinks.

He repeatedly asks questions that a couple of simple searches could answer, even after we tell him how to make the searches and where to make them.  He repeatedly asks questions such as "is it worth it" without giving any criteria with which we would be expected to make the decision.  I have no problem helping folks out with such questions but this particular guy is constantly asking things he doesn't need to ask anymore.  He knows where to look and how to look by now.  What is the point of explaining things to the kid if he's not going to ever learn more than the least amount possible?

I can understand what you said chad. If you don't want to post don't post,  let people who want to answer go ahead and answer if they like.

Posting as you do sometimes out of aggravation brings down kids with a real enjoyment of this board i think.

It's also shows that you post way to often and really should think about doing other things if your in a bad mood.

What kind of comment is that supposed to be? Have the balls to say what you mean and mean what you say or don't bother. I will try to go easy on you but atleast try to explain yourself and complete a sentance.

Ah ... Internet board tough guy, eh ? You seem to have a proclivity for talking tough and suggesting that you need to smack people up.

My point, spelled out, is that your posts can be categorized exactly the same way as you have categorized Chad's, except that he doesn't talk about smacking people.

If you want to play posting police, start with your own posts.

My smacking up chad comment was an obvious attempt to show my dislike for his attitude and nothing more.

I'm not an internet tough guy, if it seems that way to you it just lets me know that my strong will intimidates you and in your eyes I'm a tough guy. My comments have nothing to do with policing anything, i took offence at his comments and felt the need to point out to him that if he's not helping put a cork in it. I have that right.

Iif i take the time to read a thread and see someone being an ass i will tell him all about it in detail.

Maybe my attitude is abit bad where chad is concerned but after all i am defending kindness over nastiness.

I don't know where you get the idea that i post and insult others in this situation, adult politics is a different story.

I have helped this kid out in his pin exploits many times.  I was glad to see a young guy in here trying to get into old pins... but he doesn't seem to be learning anything, just asking the same questions over and over again "how much is it worth, what I can get for it, is it worth it".  After a while we'd like to see him learn from our answers and start asking different questions.  If you're really that concerned, do some searches on his posts and you'll see that I wasn't just tooling off on a person asking a question.

I don't think you looked closely enough.  Those "wimmins" clearly possess an adam's apple :laugh2:

There's something tremendously funny about someone telling someone else what to do because they don't like what that person was telling someone else to do, although I don't think Tommy will ever be able to comprehend it if he was confused by Cheffo's concise and well put 3 word post pointing this fact out.  Well, without pictures, anyway. :laugh2:

Any post where you have USSEnterprise asking a question and Chad and Tommy replying in it is a trifecta of assclowns.

My .02 for what it is worth.

USSEnterprise try to use the search button or Google. Asking questions is good, but asking the same sort of questions repeatedly will get to people. (as seen in this thread)

Chad had the right approach but maybe you could work on your people skills some more.

I have excellent people skills.  I use them when I feel it warranted.  I've suggested gently a few times now that he stop asking the same questions over and over.  How much patience does an individual deserve before eventually people start getting snippy?

Maybe my attitude is abit bad where chad is concerned but after all i am defending kindness over nastiness.

If you're really that concerned, do some searches on his posts and you'll see that I wasn't just tooling off on a person asking a question.

....not to throw more fuel on this ....but I too agree with Chad. He's right on the mark here....USS Enterprise repeats his questions over and over......it's kinda' odd.....even for a kid.  :dizzy:
Seriously. Will it fit in my basement or what?
