I uh...just bought a Megalo 410....
« on: November 03, 2006, 01:05:13 pm »
I've been wanting one of these for a while.  Finally got one.  From what I can gleen, I know I can hook a computer up to it.  I'm guessing it'll do 800x600.  Do I need to be careful about frequency?, or does it have it's own circuitry for that?  I probably will be careful anyway and boot into VGA mode, but it'd be nice to know.

Any other particulars anyone can offer would be appreciated.  I think I'll put a J-Pac in it eventually.  Any tips on how to get the thing upstairs would be cool.

Thanks.

carefully remove monitor (don't touch any high voltage parts) and carry it up seperate (2 people if necessary).

My knowledge of Candy Cabs is limited, but IIRC, the monitor in the 410 is multifreq supporting 15KHz, 24KHz and 35Khz. I dont know whether it is autosync or not , so you had best find a manual to see if there are switches to set.

I have no idea how that big boy comes apart ... good luck getting it up the stairs.

Cheers.

If your monitor is indeed a multisynch a PC monitor should hook right up and be just fine. Honestly, I don't know what a Megalow is, but if it's a candy cab the forum at www.killercabs.com might help, they are candy cab fanatics.

Thanks, I've been googling like crazy, and there isn't much out there.  I know it's tri-resolution, Mitsubishi.  All the pics I've seen don't look exactly like mine, which has a header with a two-digit display on it.  And sometimes, the display looks at you....   ???

Just grab it by the joystick and show it who's boss.

Neo-Geo, but only 3 buttons?  That seems strange, but what the heck do I know?

There's lots of games that use less than three buttons.  But, yeah, I wanna MAME this, so I'm after a six-button Astro City CP, or a drill press.  Looking at eBay, I think the drill press would be waaay cheaper!

You should be able to do that with a metal punch much cheaper.

Thanks.  I hadn't thought of that.  I'm not very tool proficient.

That would work.  I'm sure there are other tools folks here could suggest as well.

Those punches are used on sheet metal. The cat's meow for stuff less than 3/32" thick.

They run about $35 for a good un.

Hadn't seen a cab quite like that. Looks awesome, now you just need to get the scoreboard to do some more of those great gestures like wink at you, etc
