Hey, fellas, since it's the season for this sort of thing, I wanted to see who among you has had any ghost experiences to post... it interesting to check the ghost forums and see what has happened to people who dig this sort of thing, but I wanted to see what real experiences you might have had, since byoac'ers tend to be a bit more grounded...well, some of you... let's hear 'em!

One time, I went to get some milk from the fridge, and it was spoiled... two days before the labeled expiration.

That had to have been an angry poltergeist.  Cause that's just too freaky for a better explanation.

...or sometimes certain strong emotions can manifest themselves into poltergeist activity. Like perhaps....sexual frustration.

I don't think that sexual frustration spoiled my milk.

Eh, that's in the freezer, which takes care of that.

Is there paranormal activity surrounding it? It looks as if it might vibrate menacingly when the lights go out...

This just happen to me this Friday. Ok, it isn't a paranormal story, but it's freaky nonetheless, especially given the season.

I live in a small, old mill building, only 7 units. A few of the units are empty as people have recently moved out. The smoke alarm is the apartment below us has been beeping every 3-4 minutes for the past couple of weeks. The battery is low. I haven't seen the woman who lives in the apartment below; I've put my ear to the floor and I haven't heard her either, no TV, no running water. The little dogs she has are silent as well. Same with her baby, whom we can usually hear if we listen closely. Nothing. Just the beeping, every 2-3 minutes, which seems to echo in an empty room.

Our landlord usually leaves the door unlocked on the empty apartments so he can just have anyone show them. I've gone into the empty apartments before to replace the smoke alarm batteries, as NO ONE ever seems to do it...so I figure I'd go down and check to see if I can get in to replace this one.

I go downstairs, I knock on the door lightly, press my ear to the door and listen. Nothing. I check the handle and it turns, the door slowly cracks opens. "Helloooo?" Silence. It's pitch black inside. First thing I notice is the smell of perfume, it's strong...but there is no sound, no motion, no life. I'm still standing outside the apartment, I open the door further, a beam of light from the hallway travels across the room and reveals furniture inside.

"---Cleveland steamer---! There's someone still living here", I think to myself. I quickly swing the door closed, but just before it is shut completely, I happen to glance to the left. Just for a split-second, I notice something. There's a couch inside the apartment, against the wall, facing the hallway I'm standing in. There's a person lying on it, covered with a white sheet...covered from head to toe. Arranged in a "mummy" position.

"Sorry!", I say. The door clicks shut. It takes 2 secs before I completely freeze. Thinking about whether or not I should open the door to check again. I decide against it. It didn't *smell* bad or anything.

That was four days ago. I've been trying to get ahold of the landlord to see if he's heard anything recently from the woman who is supposed to live there.

I haven't. It's still absolutely quiet. Except for the beeping of the smoke alarm, that, every 2-3 minutes, seems to echo in the "empty" apartment below.

Some friends and I were exploring a large cemetery several years ago.  Goofing around I started whistling eerily into a mausoleum in mock ghost/scary wind sound fashion.  Suddenly it felt as if someone had grabbed me by the throat.  I quickly got the hell away from that spot.  My friends said I turned white and was pretty freaked out.  Never put much credence in ghosts but this experience still haunts me!

Back when me and my wife were dating, she told me about how when she was a kid, she would sometimes see an old woman standing at the bathroom sink across the hall from her bedroom. I always thought she was full of it. Eventually, she switched bedrooms in the house, and the old one became a storage room. One night we were sitting in the living room and she all the sudden got up and ran into the kitchen. She was very pale, and told me she had saw a floating white cloud in the hallway between her old bedroom and the bathroom. I picked at her for a minute and then went to check it out. As soon as I put my hand around the door to her old bedroom, I got this horrible chill that went thru my whole body. It was like all my energy was zapped.  I never saw anything, but I felt something, which to me was much worse. I then went back to the kitchen and fell down beside my wife. I was paler than she was. Since then, I tend to believe people who are sincere about their experiences.

Really, what happened is that she went into the hallway, let a huge one rip, and then convinced you to go in and be exposed to it.

Beeping's from elsewhere but due to how sound bounces around, you THINK it's from down stairs.

We are 100% certain it's from downstairs. I heard it beep in the apartment when I had the door open.

Ever consider turning on the light?

At this point, no. I'm not going back in. I didn't have time to think about doing it when I first peeked in, the realization that the apartment was still inhabited led me to *very* quickly close the door. I'm not going to bother her again if she's still there and still alive. I'm just going to wait to hear from the landlord.

That was the first thought that came to my mind. I would definitely call the police to check this out. They'll go in, take a look around and if everything is kosher, then no biggy. Mr. C. is smarter than this, so of course he is yanking your crank guys. Just look at the way he constructed the story : cleverly placed mentions of the beeping, a typical plot point of a ghost story.

Very good story either way Mr. C. ....of course if you are actually serious (which you aren't)pick up your damn phone and call the po-po.

Get a wheelbarrow and a bell.  Hunch over and wheel the barrow down the hall, ringing the bell, and shout BRING OUT YOUR DEAD.

If they bring out any dead, you know what happened.

Ah good story Mr C. I have a creepy story for ya. About 8 years ago (I was in my early 20's) a couple of friends, my bro and I were walking through a particularly old part of town past a particularly old cemetary. It was late night, although I don't remember the exact time. Anyway we had been telling strange stories that we had heard or experienced and my friend Dan mentions that there is supposedly a ghost "dog" that runs around the neighborhood. As Dan was describing the dog, I got this creepy feeling and I looked over to my right, toward the cemetary. There sat a white poodle, it was pretty mangie looking and it only had one eye (I know it sounds corny, but its true). This was the exact dog my friend was in the process of describing. I interrupted Dan and I said "Is that the dog you are referring too?". He looked over and took a few steps back and said yes. Well I was pretty scared and I ran at the dog, I dont know what I thought I was going to do but I think I was running of adrenaline. Here is where it starts getting weird, The dog motions as if it were barking, jaws snapping, body lurching forward, but not a single sound came out. It then took off at an unnatural speed, never leaving the outer perimeter of the cemetary, never making a sound, until it disappeared out of view.

At this point we all look at each other and everyone was pretty freaked out, except for my bro who was keeping it cool, he didn't believe in these type of things and thought it was a setup. So we continued to walk around the block, discussing what we had just seen. At some point we reached the other side of the cemetary and there was an open gate. My friends Dan and Jeff H. and my bro decide that they want to venture through the cemetary to see if they can find the dog. I, being the cautious person I am and not wanting to tempt fate, decided not to participate. My friend Jeff S, who was probably the most affected by this was still shaking and decided he would walk with me, following the perimeter of the cemtary to the street we started this adventure on. Keep in mind this is a fairly small cemetary. We were rounding the corner that put us on the street perpendicular to the street we originally saw the dog on. Then, screaming... some angry, some scared. So my friend and I start running in the same direction we had been travelling, we were about 200 feet from a second entrance to the graveyard. I remember almost crying cuz my bro was in that graveyard as well as 2 of my very close friends, but I held it in. I yelled for my bro but there was still a lot of yelling. At this point I could recognise the noise and realized it was my friends and bro, I look up ahead and see my friends come out of the second entrance, they were waving and frantically yelling for us to hurry. I dont know if I ever ran that fast in my life. We ran to a friends house who was close by. I still wasn't sure what happenned.

We all sat down and Dan started explaining. They entered the cemetary and started walking, everything seemed fine and there was no sign of the dog. Dan's uncle had died the year before of cancer and was buried in the cemetary so Dan decided they would walk past his grave. As they rounded the corner and the front of the plot came into view, they realized the dog was sitting on his uncles grave. Dan yelled angrily, "get the hell out of here". Unphased the ghost dog began walking toward them. Dan waved his hands frantically and swung at the air to scare the dog off but the dog kept coming without so much as a flinch, motioning as if panting, tongue dangling, chest swelling then emptying, but absolutely no sound! That is when they started yelling and running out of the cemetary. Now we were all pretty creeped out, it was at this time that my bro began trying to save face. Forever the skeptic he explained that there had to be a reason for it all. I said I didn't care as long as we were away from there. At that point friend Dan became angry again and began cursing the dog "why the ---fudgesicle--- does it have to mess with my uncle?" he asked, we didn't have an answer.

"I want to go back again, one more time" Jeff H says. Jeff H was the guy in the group that always had something to prove. Forever the tough guy. My friend Dan was still angry as I had mentioned and he said he would go too. Jeff S and I were still pretty scared and my bro was "busy" watching a movie, so the three of us were out. I tried to convince them to not go, that it was stupid to toy with this stuff but they left anyway.
I remember thinking what idiots they were and being scared for them at the same time. Don't get me wrong I am not the ---Bad words, bad words, whatcha gonna do? Whatcha gonna do when saint censors you?--- that this story would lead you to believe. But anyone who has been close to something like this can tell you what kind of feelings these occurences can manifest. The feeling I had when I first saw that dog was a somber, lonely feeling as well as a feeling of dread. The world seemed unnaturally dark in that moment, and I don't mean metaphorically, I mean literally dark or dim. I am sure someone on these boards can vouche for me here.

A half an hour had passed and I heard my friends coming up the steps. There were at a quick gait and I heard crying echo through the hallway. By the time I got up to meet them they were already up the steps and Jeff H didn't look the same, now or ever again. He was pale white and crying hysterically, he was shaking untrollably and he was embracing a broken stick as if it were some holy weapon that could save him from that night. Dan began speaking "We reached the hut in the middle of the cemetary and we could both see something white and green over one of the graves. I realized how bad an idea this was and I told Jeff we should split." We all look over at Jeff and he is still shaking uncontrollably, still crying. "Jeff said he wanted to check it out and he would be right back. I waited at the hut. When he reached a certain point the white and green things started moving toward him quickly. He screamed like a woman and started running toward me and the exit, so I started running too. At one point I looked back to see if the white and green thing were still following. They were and they were close. It was the dog and it had some kind of green mist around it. I just kept running, I passed Jeff and didnt stop until I got here." We asked Jeff if he was ok and he didn't answer, he just cried. To this day he won't talk about it.

We were all talking about leaving that part of town and getting as far away from the graveyard as possible and my bro starts laughing. "You guys are retarded, I ain't falling for this". We continue talking and decide we are going to leave, my bro says "No I am staying". I am like "come on Tim lets just get out of here, can't you just learn from Jeff, now isnt the time to be a tough guy, lets just go." So he gets up and starts walking to the door. I thought great he is ready to go now. Then he starts coughing and says "something is wrong" in a strained tone. "What?" I say. He ignores and walks down the steps. We all look at each other and I run out to see if he is ok. I get outside and my brother is walking away from me, breathing is labored, he is looking up at the sky. I yell "Tim!" He just keeps lumbering away as if he didn't hear me. I yell again and start running toward him, still no response. I catch up to him and shake the hell out of him "Tim, tim wake up". He shakes his head and he looks at me. "How did I get out here" he says. "Are you ok?" I say. "Lets get out of here" He says and we did. None of us had a car then so we walked a couple of miles to Dan's house and we all hung out there. Leaving that night and its events behind....Or so we thought.

There is one last chapter to the story. One night, close to halloween I was hanging out with a friend of mine Sarah. It was about 6 years after the whole incident and I decided I would tell her the story of that night. It was about 3:00 am and we were both creeped out. I was staying with my grandmom at the time and we had been hanging out on the front porch. I decided I would walk her to her car cuz she was pretty creeped out. "Todd? I don't want to creep you out but turn around" she says laughing. That feeling swept over me again from 6 years ago. Slowly I turned around and there was the ---smurfing--- dog!!!! little white poodle, desheveled, one eye, and no sound.... I screamed like a ---smurfette--- and ran, sarah followed behind. We got to her car and I told here I was sleeping at her house that night, she said that was ok and it has been 2 years since I have seen the white dog. For the record, my grandmoms house is 30 miles away from that graveyard, but there is a different graveyard directly behind her. True story!!!!

Well, I live on the edge of a really bad part of town, you don't call the police in my neighboorhood for "suspicions"...the cops here have so many things to deal with. They're already familiar with me as a pretty active member of my area 'watch' program. So they give me plenty of ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- when it doesn't pan out, and I don't want to be the boy who cried Wolf too many times.

But, just so I don't look like a totally heartless ass, I left out the part about her being active in the military. She often leaves for long periods of time, and I think we just walked in on her sleeping while she was last in town. I've heard back from the landlord, he checked the door and it's locked now. Her car is gone...and there are no bad smells coming from the apartment ...yet.

lordtodd,

Read through the story, very interesting, two things cracked me up though:

I, being the cautious person I am and not wanting to tempt fate...

...decided to RUN DIRECTLY AT A GHOST DOG!!   lol.

and this:

Quote
We got to her car and I told here I was sleeping at her house that night...

This is the whole reason for the ghost story, isn't it?  You angled for six years!

That is a lot of work for a piece of ass. Next time I will get a hooker  I suppose the first statement is a bit contradictory as well, lol. Keep in mind though that I don't think I was in my right mind when I ran at the dog. I think It was a nervous reaction to the events. Thinking about it now I wonder what the hell I was thinking.

When I lived at my parents house, I had an interesting experience.  Well,  I've actually had a few there, but I just really like this one...

One morning while I was getting ready for school (senior year at high school), I headed to the bathroom to take a shower. I was the only one home, as at the time my brother was away at college, and my parents had jobs which made them leave fairly early.

Anyway, I walked into the bathroom, and put my towel on the countertop across from the shower.  I noticed that I had placed my towel on top of a pair of tweezers (they were in the spot where I always put my towel in the morning).

Took a shower, and pulled back the curtain to grab my towel.  As I pulled the towel, I saw the tweezers fall to the floor, and I heard them bounce on the floor twice (tink, tink).  I reminded myself to pick them up when I got out of the shower, and closed the curtain again cause it was still nice and warm in there.

I finished toweling off and opened the curtain. To my amazement, the tweezers were back on the countertop -- right where they were at the start of this story.  I searched the floor where I saw the tweezers fall -- nope,  nothing there.  I called to my family -- nope, nobody home.

I don't consider this story to be particularly spooky, but I think it fits well into this thread.

Along with MustardTent's wierd-but-not-scary story...

While I was in college, I had an apartment by myself. I didn't have any roommates, and nobody had a spare key (except for the apartment manager, of course).

Anyways, someone had given me a cheesy gift of a battery-operated frog. It had a switch underneath with just two settings - on and off. When it was on, it would hop and around for a while, stick out its tongue, make a sound, and repeat the process.

Anyways, I got home one day to hear this sort of mechanical grinding sound coming from my bedroom. The frog was on my desk laying on its back in the "on" position. To my knowledge, I never left the thing on its back. And I definitely know I didn't turn the thing on. To top it all off, I always left it on the dresser, and this time it was on the desk.

Like I said... not scary, but wierd.

Heres an odd story that just happened last week, although you could just say it was a coincidence.

My cousin is a firefighter and has been fighting the large fire here in southern California.  One day out of the blue my Aunt gets this weird feeling that my cousin (her son) is in danger and she needs to pray for him and get other people to pray for him (regardless of your thoughts on prayer, the point is she felt he was in immediate danger even though he'd already been fighting the fire for several days).  She called my mom and my mom called me.  About an hour later we see on the news that several firefighters had just died in the fire, which is obviously what we were dreading to see.  Later that night we got a call from my cousin.  He said that he was okay, but earlier that day he was heading to the same location where the firefighters had died (before they had died), but he had to stop and get gas on the way there.  That couple of minutes delay was just enough to keep him from harms way and dieing with the other firefighters.

I'm not going to try and argue that prayer had anything to do with him being saved, but you have to admit that its odd how my Aunt suddenly had this feeling that he was in danger, but his stopping for gas at that moment saved his life.

On a couple of occasions I have gotten the feeling that I am not alone even when I am the only one in the house. Usually this feeling is accompanied by some form of movement or sound that I cannot explain....each time it has been different but for example, I remember one night I was up late surfing the net....nothing new.... the wife was sound asleep as was my daughter. I had a night light in the hallway outside my bedroom door, while sitting at the computer I could see out the door of the spare bedroom when all of a sudden there was a shadow like someone just walked past the nightlight. I figured my wife got up to use the bathroom but the light never went on. I got up passing my daughters room...she is still in bed....looked in the bathroom....no one there...turned and went to my room and my wife was still sleeping.......no pets in the house at the time so there was no one that could have passed between the light and me casuing that shadow!! The hair on the back of my neck were standing straight up at the point.....I searched the rest of the house and found nothing out of the ordinary. This happed several times over a period of a few months then stopped. I am getting goose bumps now just thinking about it.

True story, and one I've rationalized as having a science-based rationale behind it, but stilll?

We were moving to another state. Wife was already in the other state starting her new job with our daughter, I stayed behind a couple of days to close up the house and pack us up and move.

It's late at night, dark, I'm alone in the house in the kitchen. Kitchen has a cutout window looking into the living room.

There is not a single thing on in the house as I'm getting ready for bed. Suddenly, I hear clearly and audibly "I wish you'd turn this thing up so you could hear me." (it may have said "on" instead of "up). Male voice, quite distinct, not garbled at all, sounded like it was coming through an electronic medium (i.e. it was "radio" quality maybe, but somewhat better). Not one of those "did I just heard something?" bits of random noise, but a clearly spoken sentence.

Spooked the crap out of me. I mean, "holy cow what if there really is something out there but it's in HERE with me?" type of spooked. Cranked on every light in the house, searched every room with something in my hand like a broom handle.  Nada.

Everything was off, no one in the house, locked up tight, nothing electronic on other than fridge.

Now, in the living room was our stereo system. It was plugged in, but still off. My guess was that some freak of electronics, copper wiring, antenna action, whatever, picked up a random CB burst and played it on the speakers of the stereo system. Sort of like people who hear radios playing on their fillings under the right circumstances. I'm positive it was some random electronic freak occurance like that.

Damned if it didn't spook the crap out of me though. Think I slept with the lights on that night.

===============

Other weird thing that happened to me happened when I was a teenager. Woke up out of a sound sleep, had that presence of mind that told me I was clearly awake in my bed. Couldn't move. Not a muscle, not an eyelid, 100% completely paralyzed. Scared the crap out of me. Then I felt a presence in the room. I thought it was my mom, and I thought "she'll figure out there's something wrong with me and get me help!" Still scared, but had that feeling my mom would help me. I felt the presence sit on my bed -- don't know if I really felt the bed move, but I felt the presence sit next to me on the bed. Suddenly my whole body jerked, my eyes popped open, and.... I'm all alone in my room with the door closed.

Presumably one of those lucid waking dreams, but damned if I wasn't convinced I was awake already and again, scared the crud out of me.

==========

I remain a skeptic, but I do get that shiver up my spine every now and then...

I was going to ask if you had speakers anywhere in the house, 'cuz that's what it was. I live in a third floor apartment, just above and *immediately* adjacent to a busy intersection, and my desktop computer speakers often scream entire sentences at me. Clearly audible, but with an overall electronic 'noise'...and it happens when I've got no sound pumping through the computer.

Like you guessed; your speakers just picked up a CB signal.

The part that got me though was that it was powered off. This is back in the day when powered off means off, and not just asleep. Physical toggle switch that makes it all go dark. Still, guess there was electricity in there somewhere....

I have had a lot more experiances as a child then an adult. I remember reading or being told that children are more in tune with paranormal things then adults are.

Skip forward many years: My daughter went through a time when she was having nightmares that would continue once you are awake.....they are called night terrors....they are lots of fun  :dizzy:

So one night I wake up to a shreaking coming from my daughters room, I bolt up and run in followed by my wife. My daughter is riveted to her headboard staring and pointing into the corner saying something like, they are over there. I turn the lights on show her there is nothing there and it takes about 15 minutes to calm her down and she now seems fully awake, scared, but awake. She is now done sleeping in her room for the night and is going to sleep with us. On the way she stops, uses the bathroom and gets a drink. In total we were probably up for close to a half hour, we get into my room and climb into bed when she pushes away from me and slides toward her mother side, she is again wide eyed and pointing near me saying there comming!!! Daddy their comming IT"S TOUCHING YOUR SHOULDER!!!!!! Screaming, pointing and generally freaking the ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- outta me! She will not stop and she will not get anywhere near me.

Finally half for effect and half for god knows what I smack my shoulder and get up and swing in the general direction she is pointing in. She said it was gone, she was crying and shaking.........Paranormal......No clue..........and absolute 11 outta 10 on my weird-o-meter though.  I did think back and remember that kids are more in tune to that type of thing.

That was probably 7-8 yrs ago, she is 12 now and she remembers it well.

I tend to be somewhat of a skeptic, but somethings I would rather accept that have it show up on my doorstep going....See I am real.....

I'm a skeptic too. In fact, I'd say you possibly experienced 'sleep paralysis'...even better, scientists have been able to stimulate the brain, and conjure up 'shadow people' too. So you also (possibly) encountered erratic synaptic functioning in that particular region of the brain, and in turn, felt the 'otherness' of your own self-conscience. Damn.

http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2006/09/060920-shadow-person.html

Anyhow, I reeeeeeally want to see something paranormal, and be unable to explain it, but I'm probably the most skeptical person alive. I have, so far, been able to find a reasonable explaination for the few 'freaky' occurances that I've encountered...all except for one. Which I'll share tomorrow. When I have more time to write it. I still don't think it's paranormal, but I can not, for the life of me, explain it away.

About two weeks ago at work, I was on the phone with a customer and he tells me he can hear Rush Limbaugh on the phone line.  I explained to him about radio waves, cordless phones (copper bones, westward foams, triple stones.)

I had just read through your thread in Politics about Rush.  Jungian synchronicity at work?...or something more SUPERNATURAL!?

 Ok another True Story...

My mother always told us kids that she can see ghost.  That the
old house where she grew up was very much haunted.. and many stories
came from that.    So.. we grew up with open minds...  which I believe is
one reason why some can see these things, and some do not.

Anyway..  we lived in a small country-ish town in upstate ny.   The place
was a fairly modern Appartment complex.  Ours has 2 floors and a basement.

I was about 11yrs old.   I never drank (till age 25),  never did
any drugs.  Wasnt on any meds.  Never had any paranormal
experinces of any kind, before this.

I was thirsty in the middle of the night.  Maybe 2am.
I got up from bed, and walked to the staircase to go down and get a
drink.

The staircase had a high ceiling,  and had a light hung up there.  The light
was on, and the entire hallway and stairs were brightly lit.   The stairs had
2 sections going in opposite directions, and a 4*6 platform in between them.

As I was about to take a step down...  I peered down at the landing.

There was a translucent white 'ghost'  of an old woman.  She was very vivid
and clear.   She was rocking in a chair, knitting...  a mere 12 ft away from me!

I was so stunned.. that all my muscles Froze.

I watched the woman for several moments...   all the while, I thought...
"Am I really seeing this!?"

I pinched my arm very hard.  It hurt.. and she was still there.
Then, I bit my tounge.  It also hurt, tasted of blood ..and she was still
there.  I was Not asleep for sure!  ...  and she WAS there.

My mind was racing with thoughts at a million per second.  I thought
"What should I do?!"  "Maybe I should try to talk to it?!"  "What should I
say?!"

But then, my mind remembered the movie Ghost Busters.. where the little
old lady turned into a giant monster..  and as soon as I thought that,  I bolted
like lightning back to the bed.  Undercover, shivering in fear.

Funny now when looking back at it..   as what harm could a lady knitting
pose?!  heh     But when you see something like that.. it completely
unexpected and nothing you can prepare yourself for.   You litterally
freeze from the shock/disbelief/fear/panic..etc.

Later in the years, I had seen the occasional black blur fly accross the
room.  I thought someone was in the house.  Searched all over, nothing
there but us kids.   Never saw another ghost again..  Im now 33.

Ive got more volitle/unbelievable/amazing stories from my mother,
confirmed  by her sister..  as well as some  freaky supernatural stuff I
had experienced later in life when
I was exploring  "New-Age"  related things...
Performing meditations and psychic related activities.

But,  Ill leave that out for now.  I may later publish them on a new site
someday.

Believe it or Not..  I really could care lesss.    I post this to tell
people,  so that thier minds may open a bit more.  And to share
with the people who also have seen/heard/felt  these things.

This one is easily explainable. It's guiltly conscience of looking up porn while your wife is in the next room. :laugh2: :laugh2:
