Mamewah troubles (Sorry minwah!)
« on: October 31, 2006, 01:18:48 am »
Okay, so I've got a bug that's spread to 2 of my cabinets now running mamewah (as they all do!)

Anyway, when I exit some of the emu's, the mamewah screen flashes briefly, then seems to re-launch the emu, but goes to a black screen.  Bringing up taskmanager and closing down the emu manually brings me back to a working mamewah screen.  I figure it's something I've done with the ini files...I was trying to get rid of a bug where the mouse cursor disappeared in vplauncher.  Anyway, here is one of my ini files for an emu that is giving me troubles.  Hopefully this is something you've come across (I tried to search it out, but didn't really see this particular trouble).

What does the log file say? Delete it, rereun the app, shut down and then look in the log file.

Wow, I didn't even know that log file was useful!  ;D

Okay, here it is, one application launched, and then re-launched when I exitied it (and locked the screen)

I would guess from that it is a problem with your configuration of VPLaunch. I believe there is an ini file for it. If so, post its contents.

This one was for Arcade Jukebox 8.  The ini for it is a command config file (key input).

Latest trouble, mame 110      Have they changed something?  I'm starting with a 100% fresh install, since I can't shake the troubles I'm having in the previous threads.  System files installed, paths (seemingly) alright, but this error is all I get:

This is day 3 trying to figure out what's going on.  I'd hate to give up on mamewah, as it took me so long to figure out in the first place.  Any ideas?

Try deleting (or moving to a temp folder) the files in your MameWAH/Files folder and give it another go. You WILL need to recreate your game lists.

Nope, wiped it, but no good. (same error)

After a bit of thought, I think I'll just switch to MaLa.  Looks pretty good, and I -literally- had to drive 8 (!!!) hours to pick up a machine at a cottage after mamewah deleted or reset a few config files (it's done it on my home cab too).  I like to be loyal, but maybe it's just time to mosey on.

Thanks for the effort!!!!!

If your considering moving to MaLa also check out AtomicFE. I have been playing with both of the lately and they are both very nice and the support here by the authors seems very good.

Just my 2 cents,
John

Cool!  Will do.  I've spent about 1/2 hour on Mala, and it -seems- quite user friendly (although a "fullscreen" setting would be nice).  I'll download Atomic and try it...I think I tried it quite some time ago, and picked Mamewah over it, but I might be thinking of another one.  My small brain is, unfortunately, feeble.

I'm surprised at you jcrouse, tsk ;)

This is an easy one:

commandline_format                        [name]{autodosbox}{nosafelaunch}

(autodosbox} is for MAME only, and no longer required really.  Change this to {dosbox} or {nodosbox}.

Also, you need the latest Mamewah beta to work with Mame v0.107+

Your problem is that you are using version 1.61 with a newer version of MAME.   Since MAME .107,  MAMEWAH 1.61 hasn't worked correctly.   I HIGHLY recommend downloading the BETA,  version 1.62B12.   It works.
