G07 blowing the 901 fuse (solved)

Hey,

I recently revived a bad G07, and had it running for about 3 days, only to have the 901 fuse blow on me. I replaced it, only to have it immediately blow again.

I looked at the G07 troubleshooting flowchart, which says to examine the HOT (the casing isn't shorted to the metal casing, and the resistance between the two pins is 47ohm), and the flyback doesn't have any cracks or burns.

I COULD just buy a new HOT and flyback, but I'd hate to spend $60 and still have the same problem.

Anyone know what else it could be?

If the flyback is a factory original, replace it!

60 bucks for a flyback and HOT for a G07 seems high.  Check out Bob' site:

Places like Amusements Plus, Bob Roberts, and Zanen Electronics usually have these flybacks on sale cheap at around $20.

Yeah, well I'm in Canada, and my options are a little limited, so I forked up the $50 for a flyback and $10 for a HOT.

I replaced them, and now it's not blowing fuses, but I'm not getting an image. I get raster lines when I turn up the screen control, but that's it.

It also sounds like either the new flyback, or the HOT is making a sort of humming sound (different than the high pitched whine...this is a lower pitched buzz), which I've never noticed before.

I checked the g07 troubleshooting flowchart, which says to check X303 and X304 (for shorts I'm assuming) and the resistance between two of the legs on X303 was 9.5 ohm. Is this a short?

thats means your monitor is working,you need to set up the contrast and colours,all monitors make a little noise especially old ones

I played with all the knobs, including the ones on the neck, still nothing. It's a black screen unless I crank the screen control to see raster lines.

well the signal is going missing somewhere or something has been disturbed or connected wrong during your last repair

Fixed! I was X303! Crazy. Also the old flyback had some burn marks on the bottom of it, so it was definitely time to be replaced.

Now I'm just holding my breath, hoping this thing will run for...oh about 50 years straight
