Tempest speed
« on: March 25, 2003, 02:38:27 am »
I recently completed a harddrive spinner... and i was playing tempest (and camel try, whew, what cool games) and i realized i have no idea how tempest reaaaally feels (im way too young to have had the opportunity to play vector games in the arcade).  When you're playing tempest, about how many times do you have to turn the spinner around to go around the tube? is it 1:1? 1:2? do you really have to spin it like crazy? i don't know...

what are some other games that are fun with spinners?  cameltry and tempest are my favorites that i have found... there are a couple other's ive found with listinfo... but curious if anyone else has input...

A spinner was one of my latest additions as well

Omega Race is one I fondly remember from the arcades(tip: set the sensitivity a little lower on this one or you'll be spinning like ballerina on crack)

I've been digging thru the breakout type games and found a couple that I like:
Goindol
Thunder & Lightning, and T&L2(block carnival) but those use a stick(?)
couple more that I can't think of the name of without playing

Also, driving games get a little help from a spinner, Pole Position and Outrun

I'm still working on the perfect seting for tempest. I seem to remember from the real thing that if you went slower, it was about 2 spins for a total trip around the tubes but if you spun faster it was almost 1:1, but I could be way wrong since I cant even remember the last place I've seen a Tempest

I had never played CamelTry, so I didn't know how it should feel... but if you go into service mode, the test screen will show how fast you are spinning; it'll say "Very Slow", "Slow", etc.  I cranked up the sensitivity all the way and still couldn't get past "Slow" (but I have a very low-resolution trackball), which suggests that this game us supposed to be pretty sensitive...
