Simple image needs vectorized PLEASE!
« on: October 23, 2006, 07:45:46 am »
Could someone make this image a vector image for me?  I don't think it would take but a few minutes.

Also, is there a way to make something a vector image with Photoshop or Image Ready?  If so I could do this myself in the future.

Thanks!

this one is so simple that I guess you can do it easily

PS is abble to produce some vector path, use the "plume" (P shortcut), trace the path you want.
in the path window, give the current path a a name.
you can export the path to illuistrator, it will produce an eps file.
I'm on the planning stage

I don't have Illustrator.  I think I may have figured something out last night but being all thumbs with PS is pretty frustrating.  I used the magic wand and I think I created a path then added that to the list of shapes you can select with the tool that does lines, circles, squares, etc.  Seemed to work except the path looked like crap, wasn't straight.

I guess I'll try to redraw using multiple layers, merge the visible layers, then redo the process to try to get a nice looking shape...unless someone would be kind enough to do it for me (the right way) and just email the file   :applaud:

Thanks for the advise though.

Errr that doesnt make sense, if you dont have Illustrator why do you want someone to vector your image?

Just do it in PS as thats going to be your naitive enviroment.

PS has vectoring tools...just use those and then rasterise.

Please realize that I am really not familar with PS.  I want a vectorized image because I don't want jagged edges when I copy and stretch this image that I reuse like 6 times (all different sizes) on this graphic I'm doing.

If you look at my original post I say "Also, is there a way to make something a vector image with Photoshop or Image Ready?" because I couldn't figure out how to do this in PS.  I since found a way, but have yet to get the results I want.

So I was hoping someone that knows what they're doing (unlike me) could just create it and send it to me so I can stop pulling my hair out.  since it's such a simple image I imagined someone would just say, here you go dude and it would be done but that didn't happen and I'm still trying to get this to work.   :-\

Again you dont seem to understand imagery and types.

If I was to vector the image, it will make no difference as your using a raster PIXEL based program.

You also have to make sure that if your looking for quality your artboard needs to be 300dpi or higher.

If your using 72dpi, PIXELATION will still be an issue and you will STILL see jagged edges as you have already stated even if you import a vector image or create it PS.

The only way to get 100% perfect images WITHOUT any pixeation and jagged edges is simply create ALL your artwork within Illustrator full stop.

Hopefully this will work for you.  If I read correctly, you just want to be able to recreate this shape at any size so that it always has straight edges and no pixelization or jagged edges.

Part of the problem, I think, was that your shape wasn't completely symmetrical in relation to the y-axis (I'm assuming here you expected it to be).  In other words, if you cut the thing top to bottom, that the left and right would be exact mirror images.

Anyway, download the attached PSD file and open it in Photoshop.  Click "Edit, Define Custom Shape..." and give it a name.  In whatever new image you create, use the "Custom Shape" tool (ninth button down in Tools).  In the Options toolbar, click "Create Filled Region."  When you create your shape, make sure you hold down [SHIFT] so that it stays proportional, and that the Foreground Color is set to what color you want to use.  And for each of the six instances, create a new shape; don't copy the layer and resize it, or you'll still get jaggies.

BTW, I used this tutorial here:

http://www.melissaclifton.com/tutorial-pentool2.html

Took me about five minutes.

RELAX and just have fun.
Remember, it's all about the games.

 :notworthy:

Thank you so much!

Yes, I don't know or understand much of the differences or the terminology at all.  I was trying to say that in the earlier posts but maybe that didn't come across.

Oh and yes I did want it symetrical on the Y axis, I think that was part of the problem I was having.  Not sure how that happened since when I drew the original image I deleted the left half, copied the right and fliped it horizontal.  I them matched it up and merged the layers.  I would have thought that should work.  I problem converted it to a different type of shape at some point and maybe it got messed up with the filters or something somewhere.

BTW, I'm using 600 dpi and doing a design for a poker chip label that is only 15/16" diameter.

Anyway, thanks again!

Just in case anyone cares, here is a sample of what the poker chip labels I'm working on will look like.  I'm only getting the blue, red, green, and yellow chips.  I just mocked up the other labels.

The chips are clay and made by Paulson.  I won't get them until December (they're currently being made and I purchased them in a Group Buy) and I can hardly wait.  This will be my first set of real clay chips.

I wanted to tie into the home theater theme in my basement.  Didn't seem like as good of a fit making them arcade themed but doing your own labels there's no limit to what you can do.
