Even though the Xbox controllers are basically USB, there's some tweaks here and there that make it necessary to install an extra driver for support.  Whether or not that driver would allow a gun to function in Mame, I'm not sure.

Xbox USB has an extra wire (the yellow one). In order to convert Xbox controllers to be used on the PC, you just put a regular USB plug onto them, and leave off that extra wire.

Why an extra wire?

Well it just so happens the ONLY controllers to use that extra wire are lightguns. This unfortunately means that they can not be converted to the standard 4 wire PC USB. :(

You can interface a GunCon with MAME.  I can't seem to find the correct info, as all the links are dead.  There's drivers for it, and I assume that you'd use a Playstation-to-USB adapter for the interface.  Originally, only TV and arcade monitors were supported, but CRT PC monitor support was added later.  It looks like PC monitors require you to be really close though, but I can't say for certain.  Try searching the Main board.

Report back here if you get something working please.  I've not dared take the plunge yet because I've not heard any really great experiences with xbox light guns and emulation on the xbox.

here's a page for the Guncon2 to PC driver etc. that's working...

http://www.guncon2driver.com/

only thing is, I think you need a PS2 to USB adapter also; everything I've read says the XBox guns won't work, so this seems to be our only  option besides the playasia guns.
