My son built his own arcade... sort of
« on: October 18, 2006, 10:49:46 am »
Since my 7 year old is always wanting to help me or build something of his own, I figured I would get him involved with something a little more his speed. I printed these oragami arcade cabinets online and he freaked. He couldn't wait to get them taped up and show me his progress on each one. Then he arranged them in his room on one of his shelves like an arcade. He was so proud so I thought I'd throw a picture up here to show it off for him. You can never get them started too early on classic gaming.

Where did you get the images from?  Those would make a great cubicle display.    8)

Start 'em off early!  That's what I say!

And to give proper credit (which the link above seems to fail to do so...).  These are originally from a project called "Paper Arcade"  (which can be found several times over on this site).

BTW, if your printer can handle it, try it out on some cardstock.  Works great, and a little more sturdy.

Any chance of adding that Ron Jeremy Change Booth to your arcade?  ;)

Little Cowbell will be thrilled to hear all of the kudos.  ;D
I agree that cardstock would be a great way to do these. Also, take your time with them. When a seven year old goes nuts with a tape dispenser the arcade can have sort of a Bizarro World effect. These would look fantastic with card stock folded carefully and glued or taped from the inside. They have tabs so they're easy to work with.

The Monster Action Figure in the first picture,

Must have not enjoyed the DONKEY KONG.

Looks like he took his sword to it !  LOL!

Great picture  :)

Yeah, Donkey Kong looks like it took a beating. I think DK was one of his first "builds".

I actually took the PacMan pattern down to my local Kinko's and had them print it up on 11X17 cardstock. I think it cost about $3. Then I took the time to fold it very carefully. It turned out great. Definitely the way to go if you ask me (and I know you didn't).
