My brand new D9200 is broken!
« on: March 23, 2003, 06:25:57 pm »
Okay, I use my cab for about 2 days after over 2 months of building (just got it assembled enough to actually play it).  It was working okay but several roms weren't working and it occasionally locked up.  Saturday night, things went REALLY badly and basically, the PC is now junk.  It was my fastest PC at 450mhz so now I have to build up an old P133 to get me by.  A lot of the classics don't even play well on that PC and dos mame 0.36.

This morning, I go downstairs and start up the cab with a different PC.  The screen is really dim and green looking.  I mess with the cables, look around, can't find anything wrong.  If I disconnect the cable (thinking the video card was bad), it says "no video input" like it should and cycles through a few different colored rectangles.  But when it gets to the blue rectangle, you can just *barely* see it.  I have no idea why, but after about 10 hours of use, my monitor is not displaying blue!

I'm probably going to have to ship it back (great....) but I thought I'd post about it here.  I'll have to call WG, maybe they can walk me through some things to check on the chassis or something.  Wish me luck, the way things have been going, I really need it. :/

You might make sure it's not your video cable.  It's not uncommon at all for a VGA cable to get kinked, breaking a wire inside.  This is especially common close to the connectors as the cables often get bent here at almost 90 degree angles to allow a PC to fit close to a wall.  I've dealt with this several times with PCs and the video looks exactly as you described.  Try using a different cable if you have one laying around or borrow one.

You should try a different PC and/or Cable.   It might be just the cable or video card.   If the monitor did go bad, I would report it to Wells Gardner.

Thanks for the suggestions.  I already tried a different PC and cable, no effect.  I think something is wrong on the board of the monitor because it looks like the blue is missing.  When it cycles through the "no input" screens when I don't have the PC connected to it, it shows a yellow, red, and green rectangle.  But the one that is normally blue is almost invisible (I have to try VERY hard to see it).

Now that monday is here I'm going to call WG and see what they say.

Thanks,
Wade

Thankfully, they are sending out a new chassis for it.  Can't wait to get it up and running again!

I asked about that (I was worried).  They said if it happens to be the tube (instead of the chassis), then they'll send a new one out and I can just throw away the old one.  So no matter what, I shouldn't be stuck having to ship the thing back to them.  They sure are making me feel better about the whole ordeal.

Just an update for those interested.  The replacement chassis arrived after 2 days.  I installed it a few days ago and it fixed the problem!  Whew...   Now I can get back to enjoying my game! :)
