Daphne/PinMame
« on: October 06, 2006, 05:50:05 pm »
Hi, anyone got any idea how to run Daphne out of MameWah on Windows XP Pro? I have just uploaded all the new Daphne Roms for Version 0.999.7, but I don't have a clue how to run them or how to run them through MameWah.

I know it's possible as I have seen it mentioned before, but no guides anywhere that I can find to get mine going.

I have a Jamma Cab, with MameWah front end, P4 1.7ghz 700mb DDR and it's flying so should not be a problem running them, just don't know how.

Thanks for any help.

mamewah will only lauch the daphne roms you need a daphne emulator for the roms to work this is called daphne loader. As well as the daphne roms you need the daphne frame files (m2v, ogg, txt and dat). if you have all these it pretty simple to set up.

what version of mamewah are you using, i have managed to get this working with version 1.61.

I've got the lot, the loader, the files you mentioned, everything. Just don't know how to set it up. I even downloaded the daphne.ini from the cpviewer site.

As for MameWah, I am using the latest version, think it's like 1.62 or something.

Anyway, thanks for getting back to me so soon, any help would be grand mate.

Adios.

P.S. I also have all the PinMame roms and the PinMame.ini from Cpviewer, any good with that? Ta.

No can't get Daphne to run any of the games, I basically need to know how to set the whole thing up from scratch, directories, where to put everything, the lot.

Thanks for your help, very much appreciated.

ok forget about getting them to work with mamewah for now lets just concentrate on getting the roms up and running. Its been a long time since i have done this, so it might take a few goes. Please any one else jump in if im going in the wrong direction.

1. you may or may not need to install the daphne system files on to your pc. this will be a different zip file from your daphne zip containing daphne loader.

2. extract daphne loader on to your c drive (or where ever)

3. place all your roms (keep them zipped) into to the rom folder.

4. unzip your frame files and place them seperatly into the the framefile folder. Take dragons lair 2 for eg, when you click on the frame file folder you want to be seeing lair2.dat, lair2.m2v, lair2ogg and lair2.txt

5. click on daphneloader.exe highlight "dragons lair II: timewarp" then click configure.

6. click the laser disc tab and from the drop down menu select "virtual player (mpeg/ogg)"

7. click browse and point to the liar 2 txt file eg

C:\daphne\framefile\lair2.txt
click apply and shut this down

8. i believe that is it try and play dragon lair2. when you first play it you will have to parse the file (whatever this means) once this is done it should work. if it all works out then you can go back to configure and select run rom on full screen and your done.

good luck

Daphen loader is the included daphne front-end that comes with the emulator.  This has absolutely, positively nothing to do with launching daphne from within another front end.

perhaps you know more than me howard. I first set up all the daphne roms through daphne loader and it was only after this that i bothered trying to get them to launch within mamewah.

See now the bit I get stuck with is what are frame files, I have a whole load of zip files and loads of other stuff, but can't seem to find these frame files you speak of.

Anyway, listen, I am gonna go away and look at what I have here and come back with a little list and see if you can work it out for me.

Thanks so far.

Assuming you are not using Daphne to run original laserdisks, the framefiles are the files that get made when you convert a DVD to something the laserdisk emulator (that comes with Daphne) can run. Without either of those, Daphne's not going to work. The roms just tell the game what scenes to play next.

Just dl Uncle T.'s "How To..." help manual on installing emus:

http://mala.arcadezentrum.com/easytrack.php?id=emuguide

Skip to Daphne section...it's pretty specific.

Hope this helps.
