Lightweight laptop with big screen
« on: September 30, 2006, 05:59:20 pm »
I'm looking for a laptop that is light weight (under 5 pounds) and has a big screen (15" or bigger).
Anyone have any recommendations?

That won't be the easiest thing to find.  Under 5lbs is easy for a 14", 13.3" or 12" screen, but a little harder for bigger screens.

The MacBook Pro has a 15.4" screen and is around 5.5lbs.  Some of the 15" Vaois are around 6lbs.    The Dell 1505 is around 6.4lbs or so I think??  That's a few ideas to start.

If your focus is more on the "light" than "big screen"  look at the MacBook or the Dell XPS 1210 which is really nice.  I have a Dell 700m which I totally love, but you won't find them new anymore.
first off your and idiot

Man I love the internet, haha.

The Lenovo ThinkPad T60 looks OK.  15" screen and weighs around 5 pounds.

A friend stopped by with a new Dell 620.  It only has a 14" screen but is very powerful and  fairly light.

For light, the sweet spot on screen size seems to be 14".  I have a 14" widescreen HP DV series notebook thats about 5-5.5 lbs, and a 15" Toshiba A105 series that is definately heavier, and has way less battery life.
