Replacing monitor in SF2 Turbo
« on: September 28, 2006, 04:30:24 pm »
Hi, I've got the opportunity to buy this machine for 100$:

http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?letter=&game_id=9818

As far as I can tell it's the exact same cabinet as the image.

The monitor is dead, I don't really know why.

What would be the cheapest and easiest method to replace the monitor?  I don't really mind if I have to use a computer monitor or TV, I just want to be able to see the game.  I also don't care if the replacement monitor is a little smaller.

I can't answer your question about the monitor, but for $100 I would definately get that.

And don't automatically jump to replacing the monitor.  Most monitor repairs aren't that complicated.  And we can help here, that's what we do!

thanks,

The owner tells me the monitor stopped working after the machine was left on during a lightning storm.

I suppose a power surge may have damaged it.

That can happen.

Could be a number of things.

Need to know the make/model of the monitor.  Post back here when you have that information, as well as the cabinet in front of you so we can begin the troubleshooting process.

First step: check fuses, and make sure the monitor is actually getting power.

during a storm the usual way a tv gets fried is when the lightning hits the aerial but as you have a cabinet not connected to anything bar mains socket the only thing that can happen is a power surge, thats likely to blow a fuse only because an isolation transformer takes most of the surge-i don't think its gonna be a big job getting this machine back online

So first I need to get you guys a picture of the monitor correct?  Or even better, the manufacturer.

Then I need to check to see if any fuses are blown.  I think I can do that.

Additionally, I can buy this machine for 75$.

The monitor works but the game just displays garbage on power on.

Would I be able to swap parts between these two to create a working machine?

both games run the same frequency monitor so you should be able to swap o.k
the one that comes up with garbage is probably low +5 volts/game board bad connection or eprom seating or game board i/c faulty
i think with this forum's help its possible to get both working(no promises though)

I't been a while since your post, so I assume you've figured this out.

However, if you live anywhere near San Francisco, I have a sf2 Hyper fighting monitor that I'll sell you.
