Mamewah and mame1.08??
« on: September 28, 2006, 11:26:29 am »
Is it possible to generate a correct xml list that can be used with mamewah 1.61? Since  the core mame changed it is not possible to do this anymore.

Also it is not possible to generate ini file swith the avres utility of Bensons ???

Im not positive but i think you need to get kricks file because of the fact that its case sensitive now it will send it out so you will be able to use mame 107+ on mamewah 1.61 Im pretty sure thats what you need

I created a small wrapper that will allow you to use Mamewah 1.61 with Mame 107. This wrapper sidesteps the problem with Mamewah 1.61 passing the game names the Mame is all caps. You can download it
http://wizadsl.com/mamelaunch.zip

I hope this helps you.. it helped me because i didn't want to upgrade to 1.62 mamewah and being as i wanted to upgrade mame to 108 this was a great way for me to accomplish it and it could now support those nice hi-res Mr. Do's Art Bezel's ... good luck.

And this is the readme text:
Quote
I wrote this little wrapper so that I could continue to use Mamewah 1.61 with mame 107, the problem is that Mamewah 1.61 passes the name of the game to be played to mame in all caps. This was not a problem in the past, but Mame became case sensitive as of one of the 106 U releases. I understand that Mamewah does not have this problem in its latest version (1.62b10), but since the configuration file layout was changed (the new way makes more sense), the two "config" utilites that I know of available for Mamewah do not use the new format, and I really like the utils. So here is this wrapper. All it does is launch Mame with whatever commandline parameters it is passed, but converted to all lower case. I have not tested this file much, but I can be contacted at wizadsl@gmail.com if there are bugs. How to use it:

First rename your mame exe to "mame-.exe". Then name the .exe included in this ZIP to whatever your mame exe is was called and place it in the same directory.

Just as a note, another problem with Mame 107 and older front ends and utils (including Mamewah) is that although xml2info.exe is included with Mame 107, it is broken and is no longer supported by the Mame team. A member of the community has kindly created a replacement available at http://mame.3feetunder.com/xml2info/ . If you are getting errors while generating a new game list, this may be your solution.

You should give 1.62 a shot. I was reluctant to make the jump and ended up having a couple of frustrating incidents with the ini file changes, but the files here helped alot. I figured I'd either have to never change my front end or just learn to live with it (and possibly never upgrade MAME again if krick's file stops working on a future version and he doesn't bother to upgrade it), so I just took the plunge.

Works really well so far, glad I made the change, for sure.
