Orlando FL area attractions
« on: September 27, 2006, 10:12:57 am »

Anyone have any suggestions outside of the obvious ones?  The family and I are headed down there in a few days for some serious playtime.

I seem to remember a McDonalds about a block from my hotel that advertised to have one of the biggest arcades in the world inside. I remember being slightly let down that it wasn't that big, but it definitely (at that time, 6 years ago) was worth a look.

The McDonald's with the world's largest McDonald's Playplace is located in Orlando, Florida, USA, off International Drive. It sports two floors, a massive game and arcade area (much like at Chuck E. Cheese's) and a McGourmet section where panini and sundaes are for sale.

I'll have to look into that if we stay close to there.

Even among all of the stuff there, the thing I'm most looking forward to is checking out a live TNA show.  Yeah.

Ah, yes, that was it. The largest Playplace in the world. It's all coming back to me now. It was huge. It also had an arcade, which was sweet for a McDonalds. Definitely check it out if you get a chance.

I didn't think about TNA. Very good call. When are going? I hope (for your sake) that Kurt Angle has debuted by then.

The current news (for what that is ever worth) has him debuting at the 10/9 tapings.  We'll be there.

Yeah, it should. The TNA crowd is always raucous anyway, they should go nuts.

They're not as loud IRL as the show would have you believe.   The crowd is heavily microphoned.  They're nothing like an old ECW show in terms of noise.

Kurt Angle is going to TNA??  What happened to his time off for 'medical reasons'?  Alot of the TNA guys wrestle here in PIttsburgh for a local indy promotion... they always put on a great show... Low Ki/Senshi has been a regualr here.  AJ Styles and Christopher Daniels had a great match here a few months back.

Apparently he didn't want the time off. He got pissed and signed with TNA. There is talk of him doing some MMA as well.

WWE didn't care about him taking time off to get himself right.  They just didn't want another major wrestler to die on their PR watch.  They've supposedly had people coddling and physically managing his problems for a long time.

I'm betting that it won't matter, though.  I can't see TNA actually giving us an Angle match for quite some time because they won't have to give us one.  They can ride the celebratory wave for weeks.  And their top top guys rarely wrestle on Impact anyway, so really, it's probably only 2-3 matches a month tops.

If you don't mind a little drive, Kennedy Space Center isn't too far away.
Or you might enjoy an airboat ride.  There is also indoor sky diving (a big floor fan blows strong enough to keep you suspended a few feet off the floor as if you were really skydiving.)

Might I suggest you & the family stop by the other big attraction while in Orlando. Nothing can beat spending the day at Holy Land with the ones you love.

If you aren't staying in a Disney resort hotel I would suggest catching a ride on one of the shuttle buses from the theme parks to a hotel.  At the hotel they have some pretty big arcades.  I stayed at the Pop Century hotel not just three weeks ago and their arcade had some pretty cool games in it.

As far as classics they had the following:

"Missile Command/Millipede/Centipede"
"Donkey Kong/Donkey Kong Jr./Popeye"
"Space Invaders/ Klax? (something like that)"
"Defender/Defender II ? (I believe)"

and one more that I can't remember.  Couple pins as well.

Is the DisneyQuest still open? If so, it has an awesome vintage arcade from what I understand. I think I read an article that it would be closing some time in 2006.

We have time blocked out for Disney Quest... I hear it is not what it is reputed to be, though.  I forget where we are staying, my wife did all the travel arrangement work.

Make sure you check out " Old Town ".  I believe it is off of International Drive.  Some kiddie rides there, but mostly they have some old shops which are interesting and I believe Friday nites they have a car show.  Also, if you have time and extra flow, Arabian Nights is a nice dinner show.

Old Town is actually on US192 , in Kissimmee , just a few minutes away from Disney. You can actually find some good prices for the hotels on 192 , and I believe they still offer all-day shuttles to & from the Disney Parks.

http://www.old-town.com/

However , I-Drive or International Drive, is still worth visiting. Tons of great little shops there, and pretty good prices too.

Be sure to stay away from the Timeshare People, they're hiding outside every shopping center to lure the tourists into their sales scams.

Also, a fun place to go ,as mentioned here is the McPlayplace, and 24hr. McDonalds. It's pretty cool for a McD's , and they even offer what no other McDonald's has.

Ready for this , they have the McPIZZA. It's not to bad.

McPizza is common outside the US.  They've had it in Canada for a long time.

I didn't know that. It's by far though , one of the better frozen pizzas I've ever tasted.

Oh and by the way, if you're a sucker for goofy attractions , like our family is, you might want to check out the Ripley's Believe or Not museum on I-Drive.  The price is fairly low, and not a bad way to spend a rainy afternoon should you encounter one.
