video card advice
« on: September 26, 2006, 10:28:27 am »
hey guys, im looking for advice for a video card for my cabinet.  im using a 27" insignia tv with s video. it also has component inputs.

i have a ati radeon 9700 pro 256mb agp card now, running on a p4 3.0ghz with 1gb ram, but i get the flicker during bootup, which make the card useless to me.  i have tested other lder ati/nvidia cards and they all work just fine with s video boot, but i suffer with mame games.  the cheaper cards have the choppy sound in the mk games and are really slow with 3d ones such as war gods, which used to be fast with my 9700.

ive read that most ati cards will have a scrambled boot screen, because it required software to activate s video.
i was looking at an nvidia 6800 256mb with s video and component dvi output.   would an n v idia do the job?  im just worried about that because most people say to go with ati.
The other issue with ati is the catalyst software.  when i go to shut down thru gameex, i have to click shutdown again because of issues with catalyst.

any help would be great because i need the card today!

thanks

frank
