ARCADEOS & MAME .097
« on: September 25, 2006, 09:57:45 pm »
All knowing forum members,

Well, after struggling for a little bit getting my cpu to work with my friends NBA Jam monitor, and getting ARCADEOS to list my ROMS (Had to go to a pre .106 version)  I now am having a ---smurfette--- of a time getting ARCADEOS to launch the game.

After some google research I found a few words of wisdom, such as putting MAME on C drive, etc, but I still have no joy.

Basically when I launch a game, I see the command line for about 1/10th of a second and then some funky colors for several seconds and then it's back in the ARCADEOS menu.

I can run MAME fine from the command line, but it just doesn't seem to want to work through ARCADEOS.  I believe the arcadeos configure file is set correctly as it gets the rom list from mame using list2xml.

Any other suggestions?  I'm pulling my friggen hair out on this thing.

doesn't arcadeos have a command line debug mode setting?  I could have sworn when I was configuring mine that there was a switch you could throw that showed you what the command line it was about to launch, then you press the fire button and it then executes it.  Maybe I'm dreaming.

An alternate to that would be to try replacing mame.exe with mame.bat which then echoes the command line args passed into it and pauses, allowing you to at least see what it's trying to do.

Thanks for the idea!  I created a batch file with a pause to see what was being sent and was able to determine it was sending command line options that didn't exist for MAME 097b.

Used a batch file to strip all of the commands out except for the game name and now have it launching the games properly.

I'm still having issues with it doing the side by side screens (ie: I get two side by side screens of the game running on my J-PAC and Monitor. )   ArcadeOS itself runs correctly and on the full screen though.

Back to googling for that issue.

Thanks!

Cool that you got it working!

I also had the dual screen issue on a few of my games.  I'm pretty certain that's a result of the game itself trying to put the video card into a mode that isn't supported.

You might try tweaking some of the settings for the video mode-I found that instead of setting color depth to auto and forcing it to 8, that I could run games that otherwise wouldn't.  There's a ton of video options in there-you'll wear your fingers to the bone tweaking them all.

You may find that the games that have this weird output may share a common theme, such as an odd screen resolution or something.  Do a rom info on all the ones the break and take notes.
