Can I test a Neo Geo 6-slot in my jamma cabinet
« on: September 19, 2006, 05:16:55 pm »
I have a neo geo 6-slot that I would like to sell.  I have had it a year but I am just now getting around to it.  I bought it off one of the most reliable people on this board, so I'm pretty sure it works.  I tried it in my jamma cab thinking it would boot up normal but not have sound.  But it boots to garbage.  There is also a green jumper on this one, Is that normal?  How can I test this thing without re-wiring my whole cabinet?

neo should boot perfect on a jamma apart from the extra buttons, maybe you have a faulty game card

I tried a different game and it did the same thing.  Then I checked the games in a single slot.  Then I played Puzzle Bobble on the single slot.   :)  seriously though, is my board just broken.  Where would I get it fixed?  Any other ideas?

You won't have any sound plugging a multi-slot Neo Geo board into a standard Jamma connector.   Only the single slot boards are fully Jamma compliant, all others differ in speaker pinouts (multi-slot boards are stereo, Jamma doesn't support stereo) plus the additional buttons.

All Neo Geo boards will boot on a standard Jamma connector, so if yours is booting to garbage then you likely have a board level problem.

Ugh, I have a real problem then.

Thanks, I'll do that.

Actually, www.hardmvs.com is the best source of info on commercial Neo Geo machines.

Remember that only the single slot Neo Geo gameboards are JAMMA. All other versions are NOT Jamma. They are close but not JAMMA. If you plug a 4 or 6 slot into a JAMMA cabinet, you'll blow the amplifier circuitry since the speaker output is on different pins than a JAMMA would be.

When you say it boots up to garbage, what does the picture look like?  If it's been sitting around for a while, maybe there's dust on the slots, try cleaning them really good and see if that fixes it.  I was testing an MVS game and there was no sound on it, after cleaning the contacts with a pencil eraser, the sound started working.  According to hardmvs.com the 6-slots are also very tempermental.  Check for dust and also make sure the bottom and top boards are plugged in nice and tight.  BTW, how much were you looking to sell that board for?  :)

I will try all those things tomorrow.

I think it's worth 200 if I can sell it as tested and working.  I don't want to take too much off that, but if someone wants to save me the e-bay hassle I'd knock a little off.  But that's IF it's working.  And if I'm right on the value.

Best way to ascertain value is to probably ask on the Neo Geo forum or check completed items on Ebay.  There's a guy on Neo-geo.com selling two working 6-slot boards for $180 each and one looks to be sold already.
