Why does my arcadeVGA show mame games 90% well but not windows?
« on: September 15, 2006, 08:25:18 pm »
 :banghead:
I have just bought and installed a new arcadevga card.

Firstly I was impressed with speed and service of ultimarc

Now I have tried to plug it in.

It works perfectly on my pc monitor, i can adjust resolution without troubles.

I pluged it into my arcade monitir 29 in..... and it did what i expected........ v-hold out. I have advusted the v-hold pot as much as i can but when i finally get the display to sit still the screen is either split, or partially missing. I have also played with all other pots v-pos etc.Plus ther is a 1 in band at the bottom that is inversed to show the start menu upside down.

I am unable to read any text on the screen and only see 1 or 2 icons on my destop, which i cant recognise.

AS its the new arcadevga card i can get this running on both my pc and arcade at same time. When i watch what i am doing on pc i can start mame and the games work with mame32.
mala and mamewah show split screens but i think i have to adjust there settings so i am hopeful i can fix this.

I have set the output resolution to its lowest and to 16-bit.

Is there a setting i need to adjust in windows to get the whole screen.

Is there more adjustments i can do to the monitor to get rid of the bottom band etc.

I had hoped the arcadevga was essentially plug and play for an arcade monitor but it seems it is not.

Any ideas?
If it ain't broke give it to me...i'll soon fix that

Not claiming to be a MAME guru in the least as far as software and changinf resolutions , etc.
But the key to remember is that you need to match whatever resolution you are outputing to the "Arcade" monitor needs to match "it's" capabilty. If it's a standard 15khz arcade monitor then you will need to output at lower resolutions to match it. This will probably look like crap on the pc monitor, but will closer match what the arcade monitor is actually capable of.
Make sure that the refresh rate is as close a match as well to the arcade monitor specs.
In other words, you won't be able to use like your standard 800 X 600 and expect it to work right on the arcade monitor, it will need to be much lower.
I also understand that generally you need to disable any factory video drivers and use strictly what the Arcadevga requires. (could be wrong on that)

What model monitor are you using?

I'm sure there are people here that can expound on this subject better than I can, but I figured I could get a jump on it anyways and bump the topic up a bit. I might just be way off base here.

Don't intend to bump this to top but just for others...... I contacted Andy and have had about 20 return emails. wow

Its all working as it should. It would have worked right out of the box.

I did however have to install the "old" xp drivers to allow me to adjust monitor settings
