anyone collect ANY type of trading cards?
« on: September 14, 2006, 04:16:34 pm »
I was wondering if anyone here collected any type of trading cards at all.  I came across a guy today that had hudreds of assorted boxes.  He said he would go cheaper and cheaper the more someone bought.  I was wondering about buying some to resell them.  From what I remember here are a few of what he had.

tom and jerry
many different hockey
adams family
many different coca cola
looneytoons comic ball sets
superhuman human samurai
bloodlines
jockey
tmnt
ghostbusters 2
bigfoot
horror high
royal family
new kids on the block  lol
playboy
penthouse
hooters
assorted tins with cards, from what I see on ebay they look like the ones that have 10 or 20 metal cards in them

this is only a fraction of what he had.  Just wondering if anyone would be interested  in anything.  maybe $10 a box for the cards, except the tins.

Any comments?

Steve

Most of that stuff looks pretty cheap to me.  I wouldn't want to pay 10 dollars a box on that lot.  In a bulk purchase I would want more like 2 or 3 dollars on anything made from 1987-1995.  The overproduction during those years was criminal.  It's amazing there is still a card industry at all.  Now if you can get unopened material from before those dates then you may be in good shape.  But 10 bucks a box is still steep there.  I would recommend tring to get the unopened boxes from 86 and below for 5 or 6 bucks box.  Otherwise there is no way to make a proffit.  Now if you just want to collect then the numbers can go up.  Check out ebay in the trading card section GB2 boxes are cheap.

It's probably looking at about $3 a box my cost.  I didn't think they were worth much.  I was hoping to sell some at $8-10 to break even and have some to save for myself out of the deal.  On ebay it doesn't look hopeful.

And I couldn't stop laughing when I saw the royal family cards.  The box looked like a cover off the Enquirer.

Well, I was kind of hoping there would be a few here that might be interested.  Didn't expect, but was hoping.  I did find someone local that wants the playboy hooters and penthouse, etc, but that's not exactly going to pay for the whole lot.  I'm going to go take another look and still haven't deceided on this yet.  But with my disease of not being able to pass up a good price on something, no matter how much I don't need it, I am sure I'll come home with something.  (something could be a refrigerator box of these things in a worst case scenario...lol)
