Problem running Chankast with Mamewah
« on: September 14, 2006, 10:43:07 am »
ok sorry if this is a fairly long post, but figure if i explain things a fully as possible it would help find the solution.

I downloaded chankast the other day and saved it to c:\
i downloaded the chankast wrapper and .ini file from john crouse's cpviewer website.
saved the wrapper to c:\chankast created a folder c:\chankast\images(which is where my Dreamcast game images will be saved to) installed deamon tools and set up the virtual drive.

set it up to run with mamewah in the usual way, and edited the .ini to read as below

### Sega Dreamcast.ini (mamewah v1.62) ###

emulator_title                            Sega Dreamcast

### List Generation Settings ###
rom_path                                  c:\chankast\images
rom_extension                             cdi
dat_file
nms_file
catver_ini_file
list_generation_method                    rom_folder

### Execution Settings ###
pre_emulator_app_commandlines             c:\program files\d-tools\daemon.exe -mount 0,"[rompath]/[name].[romext]"
emulator_commandline                      c:\chankast\chankastwrapper.exe{nodosbox}{safelaunch}
post_emulator_app_commandlines            c:\program files\d-tools\daemon.exe -unmount 0
general_app_commandlines

### Artwork Settings ###
artwork_image_paths                       c:\chankast\snaps
movie_preview_path
movie_artwork_no                          1
enable_fuzzy_search                       0

### Screen-Saver Settings ###
enable_music_in_screensaver               0
select_random_game                        0
saver_type                                saver_commandline
movie_path
movie_fullscreen                          1
quit_delay                                30
saver_commandline

### Additional Settings ###
music_path
lcd_display_file_path

### Settings used by MAMEWAH ###
current_list                              0

However when i try and run a game through mamewah i get the loading screen, then a window opens up containing all the files in the image, then i get the following chankast wrapper error box pop up Syntax: chankast.exe -full path to image file and i just have to exit out of it.  All files are in .cdi format and work ok through chankast independently of mamewah.

Anyhelp in getting this working would be appreciated

Chankast is absolute not cabinet friendly ay all.

You should try to use Chankast Wrapper 2.5 from the wiki:
http://wiki.arcadecontrols.com/wiki/Wrappers

It made by Howard...
Decade Old Work: MultiFE, ArcadeMusicBox
Today Works: Various Spectrum Next games from Rusty Pixels and html5 games.

The chankast_launcher v1.3 wrapper by Headkaze has everything you need built in.

I am not sure if this is the main place to download it, but this is where I found it:  (it is attached to the first post in the thread)

http://www.gameex.info/forums/index.php?showtopic=752

It provides command line switches to everything you need .... including an interface to DaemonTools application through the command line.

Anyway, chankast took me 5 minutes to set up.

It's good to have choices, but both wrappers have the same exact features except mine also controls alcohol 120%.

I only bring it up because I can't stand demon and believe it or not many of the dreamcast rips work in a120 when they don't in demon.  Hz's works flawlessly as well.

Interesting .... I have some Dreamcast rips but never could actually play the games since the video display of the games never displays properly.   For instance, with Sonic, I can see the little dude run around and jump, but the background image or cards and such are not displayed.   Also, with a fighting game (forgetthe name), then background images are not visible, just the two people in the fight, however, the image of the people fighting are not nicely drawn either.

People told me that it was because I was using onboard video and Chankast does not really like this somewhat.

Are the "errors" you refer to similiar to what I am experiencing?  I mean if I try to use Alcohol120 instead of Daemon tools, then will the game work .. perhaps?

I'm not sure, I would need the actual names of the games.

Most games I have tried worked.  Some might have minor graphical errors, but they were playable.

Typically a "bad rip" won't even load.  Rips thought to be bad often work with a120 though.

Yeah, since I was able to load them and just the graphics were bad, it makes since it could be my onboard video....
