MAME,MAMEWAH and my magically auto exiting games
« on: September 11, 2006, 03:01:51 pm »
I've had this problem for a while now. I really don't understand what is causing this interupt in MAME.

The issue - While running MAMEWAH and any commandline version of mame my games automatically exit and return back to MAMEWAH. I was playing SF2 and in the middle of a round it closes down and goes right back to the MAMEWAH frontend. Anyone know whats causing this?

Here is the setup I'm running:

-J-PAC with all shift keys set to off (PS/2 mode)
-MAME0100 Commandline version (does this in all versions of mame)
-I would list my PC setup, but it has happened on 2 different computers
-MAMEWAH 1.61
-MAMEWAH Config
-Wireless keyboard and mouse (USB)

Thanks in advance for the help everyone!

-Ben :)

Are you sure you're not hitting the game escape button on accident?  open up a game, press all the buttons individually and see if any exit the game.  Maybe you have a short?

Post your mamewah.log file..

Start the game via the command line (ie: not using MameWah) and see if the game abuptly ends in the middle or not.....

Ok I just ran commandline version by itself. It looks like its not MAMEWAH at all. I get this error:

Anyone know what this means?

looks like a video card problem.  Try using the -video switch to change the rendering engine in MAME:

mame.exe -video ddraw "C:\Documents and Settings\Ben\Desktop\mame0101b\roms\SSF2XJ.zip"

Weird, I'm using an ARCADEVGA 9250. I'll try that.

I just switched to MAME.108. Hopefully this will help solve the problem since it uses a different rendering system. I'll post if the problem occurs again.

It did it again. I was in the middle of a match of Super Turbo with my friend and it exited in the middle of the game. It's so random, it doesnt make any sense. It seems like it only happens when someone is pressing buttons. I've remapped the buttons to different keys. I have no idea what the problem is. Anyone? ??? ???

Thanks,

-Ben

- Install the latest drivers for your video card/motherboard (inf)/bios
- Try Mame32

I got this type of error quite a lot during the capturing of the intro vid.  I haven't been able to get past it and it's happened on my laptop and desktop.  For some of them I think they had just been upgraded from not working to working so maybe there's still a bug in the mame core.  Is it specific games this is happening?

I am usually playing Street Fighter games that require 6-buttons. It might of happened in a game of Metal Slug before, cant really remember. Also the games dont exit in attract mode, only during actual gameplay. So it has to be something with the j-pac or MAME or something, eh?

did you try changing the rendering engine with the -video option?  What kind of computers are they, or more importantly, do they both have onboard video (and possibly share video memory)?

Explicitly set a display mode if you are currently using resolution auto.

I never install applications directly to my desktop .....

Perhaps try installing mame into a C:\mame\ folder instead of to your desktop.

Just curious, how could that play a part? ???

actually, depending upon how the apps in question handle spaces and long file names it could.

yeah, sometimes having spaces in the folder names throws applications off.

Could also be a bad memory stick.
If you have two sticks on your computer, take one out, try it.
If it happens again, take the other out.
If it happens again, then must not be that. =)
