CPV2?
« on: September 08, 2006, 04:58:14 am »
hi all,

so at 2am i decided i should put CPV2 on my cabinet. i cant make it work. as evidenced by me posting here.

im running Mamewah 1.61 as a frontend, Mame 0.53 due to the 400Mhz box in my cab with win98.  i got some 'bad command or file name' stuff when i ran the batch file to install the system stuff CPV2 needs. and i kept getting an error while trying to make a layout with a photo of my CP, the pic was 640x480, same as my monitor, so i made the .lay file on my PC and just transfered it over. hopefully that'll work.

im hoping Jcrouse will stumble over this post, or someone else who i knowledgble about such things.

thanks in advance

-J

The program has not been tested on Windows 98. Unfortunately I don't have anymore 9x boxes around to give it a try. Tell me more about the error. Is it happening when you run the batch file to install the system files? EXACTLY, what is it saying?

OK, I loaded up a 98 box just for you and did some testing. Open up the batch file included with the system files and change the entried regsvr32.exe to rundll32.exe and try it.

Mr Cabinet liked that a lot better. no errors on the system files.

now when im trying to make my mame.dat file in the dosbox i get this error...

i typed     d:\mame> mame -listxml|xml2info> d:\mame\mame.dat

and it says...

error: unknown option -listxml
error while parsing cmdline
bad command or file name

i also tried:        d:\mame> mame.exe -listxml|xml2info> d:\mame\mame.dat
                       d:\mame> mame -listxml|xml2info > d:\mame\mame.dat
                       d:\mame> mame.exe -listxml|xml2info > d:\mame\mame.dat
same result.

oddly enough, before the system files were installed i did this step with no trouble, mind you the mame.dat file was blank, but it at least made one for me

thanks for your speedy help btw

-J

ps, i am using your cpv2 manual as a guide, im just special and get errors at every step :P

Well, there appears to be more issues with 9x systems. Even though you didn't receive any errors the system files are not registered correctly, at least on my system. I will take me some time to debug, If I even do. I am sorry to say that I may not support Win 9x, at least for now. I am busy adding new features to CPV2.

Sorry,
John

Nah, no dredging involved. I actually did a reload of a WInXP system and put 98 on it. Almost made me cry. :laugh2: Anyways, now I have it for testing.

The Mame version you said you were using (0.53), did not have the listxml command line switch... try using:
d:\mame> mame -listinfo > d:\mame\mame.dat

though im probably flogging a dead horse, i gave your idea a try um3k, it generated a mame.dat file great, (way to go um3k, thanks) even had loads of stuff in it, the File Setup Utility was able to create the files it needed to with no problems, i even got to successfully try the first example from the manual, the mamewah.jpg one, worked great. thing is when i try something like

C:\cpv2> cpv2.exe -r=dkong

i get an error box that says

Runtime Error '380'
Invalid Property Value

this may be what you were talking about Jcrouse, i dont know but on the off chance that my compy did something yours didnt, or vice versa, im hoping this is a simple issue.

if not, then damn my persistance.

and thanks

OK, just an FYI ..... This is being worked on now. There will probably be a new Systems Files for 9x package in the next few days (I hope).

OK, it is now tested and working on Windows 98. Download the latest CPV2 System Files pack from my website and run setup.bat. Let me know how it works. Feel free to email me directly at the address on my website.
