Replaceing the tube is easy.... IF you know what you're doing.
See the "whoooo mamaaaa" thread here. It talks about connecting a new chassis to an existing tube. Same diff with swapping a tube for an existing chassis.
BTW -- I think if you saw sparks and what not, your chassis is probably fried as well.... depending on where they came from, but I'd guess your flyback transformer fried too.
Tube swaps DO NOT NEED TO SWAP THE YOKE so long as the following are measured:
Horizontal and Vertical windings on the Yoke are within the same Ohm range of the original tube.
Don't make things hard trying to replace the yoke! (But also don't use a yoke that doesn't match your old one--you'll fry the chassis)
I'm a bit too tired to type all the details, but if you read that "whooo mama" thread here in the monitor forum, it addresses many things regarding chassis and tubes. A quick search of google will yield 3 or 4 Tube Swap pages, and a very thorough search will find an old "Randy Fromm" monitor tube swap FAQ, unless he's gotten the last of the sites to remove his "copyrighted material" [that he freely posted to usenet in the early 90's and now is forcing people to remove so that he can sell the information instead... but thats another debate for another thread/time]
