I'm glad I could get on here and post. I've been wanting to do something for a while now, and started the project last week.
It's a cabinet conversion.
I put the photos and various info about it on a blog, but here's a couple of pix... the original cab, and how it looks as of today.

I do have some questions for you all, but it's late and I'm tired. I'll get to them some other time.

Other than that, I'd appreciate your feedback, and check in the blog occasionally to keep me encouraged (to keep blogging, as well as finish the project).

Here's what I wanted to do... attach a control panel to this cabinet.
I was admin/programmer for this network of 100+ touchscreen kiosks, and then they were decommissioned due to budget cuts (i work for the govt).
We pulled them all in last fall and I've been waiting around since early Dec. for these things to go up for auction. I'd been in charge of this thing for the last 4 years, and thought these were beautiful.
So, I've been checking ebay (where we surplus stuff) .. for 3 months and nothing shows up.
Finally I check in with the admin services dept. and they decided not to do it.
I was really hoping I could pick one of these up cheap and keep one just for sentimnetal value .... except I'd turn it into a game machine. Cool.
Anyway.. I'd been hyped for a game machine for several months, and finally said screw it and started looking for a cabinet.

Those kiosks would make good digital juke boxes.  All one would need to do is add a kicking sound system.

What was the reason they decided against the auction and what is going to happen to them now?

Yea, they are beautiful. Apparently there's some other agencies (state, county) that want some of them for their own kiosk projects.

I doubt they will have move all of the ~80 units that way though. So it's still possible some might pop up on ebay  at some point. I just got tired of waiting.

They have 17" LCD touchscreens, 2.4ghz cpu's, built-in rear casters and a cabinet fan.

Why not just measure them, and make your own replica? They don't look too terribly difficult to cut...

Two words; Time and Cost.

If I had the funds to get my hands on a dozen of those cheep then I could do a quick turnaround and resell them as juke boxes.

Still need to drop a note to Bob Roberts for leaf switch replacements, but the bulk of stuff is on its way.

I'm excited ... I hope that excitement will carry me through all the damn wiring and hole drilling. HA

If you plan on making enough of them... you can create a template and cut them out pretty quickly with a router. The way the government works - these may never end up for sale. They could stay in storage forever or until they are worthless.

As for cost - thats unknown. You don't know how much they are going to sell for.

I can see these would be great little jukeboxes and it would be nice to pick them up pretty cheap, but I doubt they would go that cheap. They are worth a lot more as kiosks and the kiosk software running these things are probably worth more than all the physical parts.

I've seen standup Megatouches with bad boards but good monitors sell for around $300. That would make a pretty nice jukebox and all you would need to add is a computer.
