IFKZ's Centipede Restoration - FINISHED!!!!
« on: March 10, 2007, 10:28:08 pm »
After months of work, it's done!!!!
For those familiar with Centipede, take a look at the side art.  Is it my imagination, or is this an unusual color scheme?
Anyhow, I couldn't be happier, this was my first arcade project  :applaud:

Sure!  The best 'before' shot I could find on this computer is attached.  I'm thinking about writing an online restoration diary of sorts as others have done.

Anyway, the only way that paint came off was soap, water, and a mound of Dobie pads!  3M Safest Stripper only worked on the pure white portions; when it ate through a spot on the antenna I stopped using it.  The final side art resulted from hours of work hunched over the machine. :dizzy:

The white spots are bondo (not on the top, though).

Wow!!  Very nice job - especially seeing what it started as.  Is it a dedicated machine or does it play anything else (like Millipede at least)?

Side art is perfectly normal. There are versions with pink, yellow and from what I've read (but not seen) even blue borders around the Centipede....

Very nice job and it also reminds me how lucky I am finding a Centipede in almost it's original state....

I'm thinking about starting a section on my business website with a diary of the process.  The kind authors at Al's Arcade and Dave's Classic arcade (and many others) gave me the inspiration I needed to start and finish this project.  The BYOAC was also very helpful.

I didn't know if the PCB worked until I turned it on in the final stages!  First was the coin doors, then the marquee, then the monitor, and finally the board.  Amazing!!!  This machine had a break-in that destroyed the monitor before I got it, so I bought another monitor locally (Hantarex brand, I think).  The power cord was also cut off.  It's all been replaced.

BTW, great job on your own Galaxian thread!
