game launcher and gens help anyone

Hello i'v tried to get gens working via game launcher and its not going so good. When i try it via the command prompt i found if the path is not exactly correct it just launchs the gens.exe file so then you have to load the game. but if you get it exactly right for example " gens.exe sonic.zip" it  loads game .. but i cannot get it to add .zip to end of path in game launch. i have it in debug mode so im watching it and no luck. and yes i set the gens.cfg to allow rom extensions. so i also tried going into gens.map and gens.rom and changing name of game to ' sonic.zip "sonic" ' instead of ' sonic "sonic"' and when it launches it does put the .zip and it almost launches game but i just get black screen.   Please if anyone has a gens cfg or any tips help!!
