Monitor Cap Replacement 6800uf 35V
« on: September 01, 2006, 02:10:02 pm »
I'm in the process of replacing all the caps in a pentranic 27" monitor. Everything has been going fine, until i came across a cap that is marked 6.8uf 35V. Now the cap is about the same size as this other 820uf 200V cap (meaning fairly large), when i went to get a replacement, the 6.8uf 35V cap that they had was about the size of a 1uf 16V cap (really small). I did come across another cap that is 6800uf 35V and it's roughly the same size as the 6.8uf 35V, but not sure if they are even closely related. I know not to put a replacement cap in with a huge/small uf difference, but thought maybe the company that made it just moved the decimal over. No idea. Anyways, below is a pic of the cap in question.

So my final question is: Should i replace it with the tiny 6.8uf 35v or the same size cap, but 6800uf 35V?

This cap is labled with a "BP" that stands for bi-polar. So go ahead and replace it with a 6.8uf 35v Bi-polar cap. Bi-polar caps are larger in size than a non-bi-polar cap.

Thanks guys. That makes a lot more sense. Shows what i know about caps...nothin, hehe.

One last question, any idea where i might buy a replacement from? I've checked mouser, digi-key, bob roberts page and couldn't find any that were (BP).

Mouser Electronics # 140-BPHR50V6.8 ($1.13 each) should be the EXACT replacement you need.
