PC troubles where my icon view keeps changing to details view

I just typed a long post that somehow got lost when I hit the post button,    so if this shorter one doesn't make sense, ask questions and I'll try and clarify.


I have a folder on my desktop with a bunch of shortcuts in it.   For the last week or so, it keeps changing the view so I see the detailed list of files and not the icon view I'd like.  I change it back to the icon view, but a while later, it'll be back to details.

This started after I cleaned up my system with CWShredder, seek & destroy, adaware, Hijack this, kill box and all these other programs after I ran an .exe with a trojan.  The problem didn't happen while I my computer was infected.  It only started after I cleaned up my system.  Those programs like to delete a lot of things and I'm afraid something got screwed up in the process.

Oh, and now I sometimes get Direct Show errors when I go to webpages with Media Player content that's embedded into the webpage.   This also only started after cleaning up my system.

The only other thing of note is that my firewall reported that whitehouse.gov was scanning my ports the other day, but right now I'd just be happy to get my icon view to stick.  Can anybody help?  TIA

First, open a folder and setup everything exactly as you like it, icon view, etc.

Then from that folder, go to Tools -> Options | View Tab and then make sure "Remember each folder's view settings" is NOT checked (which it most likely isn't-and this is what is causing your problem, but we'll fix that in a second-you'll probably have to scroll down a bit to see it) and then click the "Apply to all Folders" button.

Viola, you should be set.

Thanks for the reply, NightGod.  Unfortunately, that's not it.  I've got that box checked.

I think I'm going to test it by creating an entirely new folder with new shortcuts and see if it changes as well or if, somehow, there's just something screwy with this one particular folder.

Did you try unchecking the box and doing the Apply to all Folders?

If it still doesn't work, your easiest bet would probably be creating a new profile on the machine and going from there.
