Game Launcher
« on: March 17, 2003, 09:45:07 am »
Hello, since I purchased an ArcadeVGA card, I've switched to Game Launcher in Windows for my cab.  I was wondering if there was a way to stop the screen from flickering when you launch a game.  When you choose a game the screen goes black (fine) but then you see the outline of the window and the cursor hour glass flashes a few times.  I love the front end but would like to get rid of this little annoyance...

Thanks all!

What window are you seeing?  Is it a DOS commandline window for Mame?  If you want to not see the hourglass mouse cursor, I suggest you start considering downloading/creating your own mouse cursors.

I know what you mean, but I think you're out of luck.  Game Launcher calls the command line mame in a DOS window, then maximizes it, which is what you're seeing.  That's the best you're going to get, I think.

On second thought, why not install Mame32 and set Game Launcher to call that instead of the command line version?  Give that a try.

The way I avoid seeing the command window is wierd but it works. I went into display properties and made EVERYTHING COMPLETELY BLACK. Once you do it forget about doing anything with windows under that username. If I do need to adjust a setting or do something I just press WINDOWS+L to logoff and sign on with another user with regular windows colors. I do use XP so I don't know if you can do this with other versions of windows.

Yup, you can do this will all versions of Windows (everything after Win 3.11).  The Windows+L command won't work on Win9x, however.  You'll have to hit Shut Down, then "Close all programs and log on as a different user"

There is a better way if dave is listening.....

Just have him launch commands via "shell" with the window style set to hidden.  Presto, no windows.  It's called different things in diff languages though, so I'm not sure what it would be called for him.
