Have you actually metered the B+ voltage from the monitor psu circuit?

Sounds like it still has a power supply issue then.
That should be quite steady and constant.
There should be actual test points for the B+.
And a potentiometer to adjust it. (which could also be bad)

My first U5000 was a nightmare.
But it would literally try to burn itself up.  ;)
There were several "revisions" so documentation may be a little off here and there.

Wells-Gardner issued three different "service kits" (retrofit kits) to fix all the problems these monitors had.

Power supply kit

Vertical output kit

Horizontal output kit

It's strongly advised to buy and install all three kits since even if you don't have problems with one section, these kits will prevent problems later.

Of course I'm assuming you've already done a capkit on this monitor first, right?

You have to buy the kits from Wells-Gardner's part department (1-800-336-6630 or 708-290-2100):

# S04E0000-000F Service Kit, U2000/U5000 Power Supply retrofit

# S05F0000-000F Service Kit, U2000/U5000 Vertical Sweep retrofit

# S01J0000-000F Service Kit, U5000 Horizontal Output retrofit

# S-KIT CAP U50 Capacitor kit, U5000 (if you haven't kitted yours then get this too)
