MAME suddenly slower and buggy under MAMEWAH
« on: August 23, 2006, 06:44:48 pm »
Hope someone can answer this one for me, or give me advice on some settings etc.

I had MAME32 running brilliantly on my PC when it was Windows 98 SE. Absolutely flawless on this spec: AMD Athlon 2000+, 256 ram, 128mb geforce graphics.

Since going on to XP, it developed sound problems, playing fine for a while, then occasionally breaking up when there was lots of action, and occasionally 'doubling up' the sound (repeating certain bits of speech twice 'overlapping' each other) like cow-cowabunga on turtles or certain bits of music doing the same, not even when there is a lot of action.

Also, since moving to command-line MAME with MAMEWAH (which is supposed to be much faster), many games seem much slower. Not necessarily newer games even - some games like turtles or golden axe, but not really on streetfighter or neo-geo games which you would expect to suffer.

I am running it all on 800x600 resolution on a TV through S-video, if you are wondering if it's a display/graphics issue.

Any advice people?

The difference is probably that things are probably set up differently between mame32 and mame. Compare the settings in mame.ini to your mame32 settings.

If you are running TV-out, have you set mame.ini to always use the same resolution (ie 800x600 in your case) and just use hardware streching?
