That's the screen from my new arcade machine.  As you can see the top 2 inches of the screen have gone out and are just a solid black color.  Is there any easy way to fix this?  Does this mean the whole monitor is bad?  Is there a loose wire?

faulty smoothing capacitor, easy fix-well yes but finding the faulty cap is the key, best to buy a complete capacitor kit and change the lot-pretty sure that will cure the fault, cost a few dollars, time maybe a few hours

Is there any chance you could better define a few dollars and possibly point me to a place online that I could get it from?  Thanks in advance.

I'll check on it.  It's in a Buster Bros Cab if that helps, which it probably doesn't.

I've only done a few cap kits in my time, but I doubt it would run over 20 bucks, even after shipping.  Can anyone back that up?

For most common monitors, you're absolutely right.  Heck, under ten bucks is right, if you get the right kit at the right place.
