Stargate: SG1 - CANCELLED
« on: August 22, 2006, 12:34:04 am »
 :banghead:

First Farscape, now the original Stargate: SG1 series?

I mean come on!  You just went all out to celebrate the 200th episode, Sci-Fi!  As soon as you earn the title and bragging rights of having the longest running sci-fi show in history, you then decide to scrap it and cancel the show??  Is the network that cheap?  Stop churning out the horrible B-movies every Saturday night and invest the money into the shows the viewers love!

But seriously...did the network not learn from Farscape?  The fans protested for more then a year, and ultimately, succeeded in getting the network to do a TV movie to wrap up the story line.  Stargate is much more popular in terms of viewers.  Those views are well aware of the Farscape model....guess whats going to happen again?

And why would you want to cancel the original series when MGM is finally making a true sequel to the original feature film?  You're not generating good PR and you're losing viewers who would have seen either.

Stupid...stupid SciFi channel.

I'm counting the days until Battlestar Galactica gets cancelled, despite all the awards and critical acclaim.

Its not officially cancelled yet, but it looks like it'll become official soon.  That sucks because it was finally starting to get good again, after many years of sucking.

Just went and looked at GateWorld and they say SciFi have confirmed it. That's pretty stupid considering how much money they must have been making from the DVD sales.

longest running sci fi show in history? not even close. Ever hear of a show called Dr. Who. It ran from 1960's to mid eighties without breaks and just reciently came back and is in its 2nd season of new episodes 27th season overall.

Longest running cable scripted show is what he meant to say. Not just sci-fi, but overall, I do believe.

I think "North American" is also used with the "Longest Running" tag when used by the producers. There is also something to be said when you consider that the funding model is different between MGM and the BBC.

I like Atlantis much better. SG-1 is basically an earth based Farscape - the two main characters are transplants. I just lost interest after Richard Dean Anderson left...

That's a *bad* thing in the long run. The producers have often pointed out that one of the hardest things about a successful long-running show is that the actors keep asking for more money each year until they start wanting more than the producers get themselves... That's why soapies and other long-running serials have a regular turn-over of characters whenever one of the star actors starts to ask for movie-level wages.
