Actually that one is a ThunderBirds spoof.  Team America is a thunderbirds spoof as well. 

Oh and the last one is a spoof of (I believe) dawson's creek or virtually any show on the WB. 

Oh... and the star trek spoof, it's a combo of two spoofs.  Since they didn't want to get sued and couldn't use the st logos on the uniforms they used the uniforms from galaxy quest.   They couldn't get sued from the farscape one because farscape is also a scifi channel show. 

I wondered why they didn't get really obscure and spoof McGuyver, Andromeda and Star Trek Voyager considering they have cast members from those shows as well. 

It's frightening that I know this stuff.

Team America was a spoof of Thunderbirds, but the Stargate scene was a spoof of Team America.  Theres an interview with the director of that scene and he talks about how big fans they were of Team America.

While the costumes may be a similar color to Galaxy Quest, but having a grey costume doesn't mean they're spoofing Galaxy Quest.  And the logos are not from Galaxy Quest, although they're not from Star Trek either.  They even say that the scene is from Star Trek during that scene, so I can pretty confidently say that they were spoofing Star Trek and not Galaxy Quest.

Who on the show is from Andromeda?  They don't have any cast members from Andromeda, just a couple guest stars a while back.  They had the one girl who they tried to use as the new doctor in a couple of episodes last season, and there was the occasional guest star, but they I wouldn't consider any of them cast members.  I can't think of anyone from Andromeda that was in more then a couple eps.  I never watched Voyager, so I have no idea on that one.

I'm kind of sad they didn't bring Park Lewis back though.

"the new doctor" is Shank's wife, whom he met on Andromeda as a guest star. And if I was her I'd be worried about that Vaala chick who Shanks has quoted as saying "she has made me passionate for acting again", since this guy is known as a bit of an ass at the best of times...

I would argue that he mentioned team america because they obviously used the same special effects house to get the puppets made.  If you are a fan of one then you have to be  fan of the other.  The dialog (explaining 6 months worth of back-story in 5 seconds) is a tale-tale thing they did on the old Thunderbirds show, something they didn't do in Team America.

Not really.  They might metion star trek in the episode but Ben Browder metions a few times in the behind the scenes stuff that they are "ripping off sicfi franchises like galaxy quest and star trek" and while he says that they show a clip of the bridge scene.  Since they don't spoof galaxy quest in any way, he has to be talking about the uniforms.  The logo is a spoof on the star trek insignia.... the ring is the star gate and the three triangles represent the home symbol on the gate. 

About the andromeda thing... read what jbox said.


If by Park Lewis are are referring to the Jonas Quinn character, all I can say is yuck.  That poor guy was doomed to be replaced by shanks when he got over his "acting" thing.  It was really obvious, almost as bad as when bo and luke got replaced by their "cousins" for a season. 

The Bald guy that pops up a lot (the inspector for the oversight committee) is Robert Picardo, who was the holographic doctor on voyager.

The fact that you didn't know that or even watched voyager pretty much puts your geek fu at the bottom of the heap.

And Howard_Casto, considering theres no way to prove one way or the other in this debate, plus the fact that I don't think anyone could possibly care exactly which shows or movies they parodied, I'm going to just end it here.

And Park Lewis was awesome, I suppose those episodes did suck, but I don't care because I loved the show Park Lewis Can't Lose when I was a kid, so they should of brought him back    And should have the Coob come back as a guest star as well.

For some reason I never watched Star Trek until recently, not sure why since I watched pretty much every other scifi show.  I've actually been watching the entire series from start to finish of ST:Next Generation as its being played on Spike TV (I tivo the 3 eps every weekday).  I'll probably go to Voyager and Deep Space Nine next.  I have seen pretty much all of the original Star Trek and Enterprise though.

I always make fun of my friend for being a huge Stargate fan.  Then, two days ago, while I we were at his house waiting for a couple other guys to come over to go play tennis he started explaining the story to me.  From beginning to end, with all the different alien races and some people being ascended and the ascended good guys only fighting the ascended bad guys, but not the non-ascended bad guys and people who let other people live in the pouches in their bellies.

Now, I'm sure that there are many shows that sound stupid, though are actually quite enjoyable.  But Stargate sounds like the stupidest ---smurfing--- show on the planet. 

Speaking of Star Trek TNG reruns, you know what episode NEVER comes on?  The one where Picard dies and goes to heaven and Q is god and he lets Picard go back in time to avoid getting stabbed in the back with a gigantic spike that protruded about ten inches out his chest in a fairly gruesome scene by Star Trek standards.  Great episode, as I recall, though I was in high school when I saw it last which was about ten years ago.

It was "Parker Lewis Can't Lose". My Geek Do beats your Geek Foo.

And ST:TNG is the best of the Star Trek series, IMHO. Voyager had it's moments (Janeway's Ripley episode is simply iconic) and DS9 has some kick-ass space battles (I feel the scene at the end of season five(?) when they leave DS9 and fly out to meet the Federation armada is one of the coolest moments in Star Trek-all of those ships arrayed in battle formation is just fifty levels of awesome), but I still love the storyline and actors in TNG-mainly because they didn't try to do some major over-arching storyline.

For the most part you can sit down and watch most any episode in that series and not feel like you're lost as to what is going one, they're pretty well self-contained. Obviously season cliffhangers/premiers are an exception, and occasionally they refer to something that happened in the past, but overall you can enjoy them in nearly any order. Granted, the first season is ROUGH to watch at times-the introduction of the Ferengi episode sticks out in my mind as particularly painful, but once they "grew the beard" and started hitting their stride in the second season (both in terms of storywriting and special effects), it really becomes a great series to watch. It's one of the few shows that actually ended at the right time and on their own terms-they could very well have pimped another season out, but I think they went out exactly when they should have (and I still have the video tape of the first showing of the final episode).

My ex and I loved that show so much, our son is named Patrick, and it's not because of my Aunt Patty or my cousin Patrick. True story.

Of course it is. *looks back at previous posts* Oh crap, why did I always write Park Lewis, and I did it several times, weird.  I think I need to go to a doctor and get my brain examined, I could of swore I wrote Parker Lewis every time.

Except, this is *why* it is so popular. Unlike ST, BSG, Farscape, S:A&B and Firefly, the people who make Stargate know it is a silly idea, and are just trying to have fun with it. Most episodes tend to be very light on moralising, the main characters actively joke about the storm-trooper effect, and they get to say lines like "is he supposed to be naked?" 

Compared to other shows that end up getting an over-inflated sense of purpose, and thus inevitably end up losing their "groove" (eg. Legend of the Rangers), SG-1 and SGA have lasted this long because even though they try to avoid it, it doesn't tend to worry them if a character "gets their appendix removed in two different episodes" so to speak. 

This is blow to damn good entertainment, hope it gets picked up by someone else.

I suppose that makes sense.  I liked Xena, V.I.P. and Jack of Trades (think that's what it was called, the one with Bruce Campbell in it) and those were all pretty bad.  They just knew they were bad and knew how to do bad right.

ST TNG  - One of my favorites is the one where Pickard gets zapped and lives a whole life as a different person on a dying planet. When he is an old man and the world is about to end, he wakes up on the bridge of the Enterprise and he is just Pickard again. He had only been out for a few seconds.

The new SG Atlantis was good but that story line has been done in almost every SciFi series. Ryker went mad, 7 of 9 went goofy in deep space (somewhere where there were no stars for oodles of lightyears), It is the whole beautiful mind thing wrapped into a show.

Alot of people really love that episode (myself included). I don't know if you read the ST:TNG books, but it seems that incident somehow gets brought up in nearly every book written since the TV series ended. It's almost like looking for Hitchcock in his movies at this point-you know it's going to be in there somewhere, it's just a matter of where.

Also, if you're a big TNG fan, I would recommend the A Time to.... series (9 books) and Death in Winter. They're crucial to the storyline of the series. The A Time to... books cover the events leading up to Nemesis (and make that movie all the more poignant due to Data's massive leaps in emotional growth, despite his no longer having the emotion chip) and Death in Winter covers the events after Nemesis, including some major plot points for certain characters. Really, all the Trek books that have come out in the past few years have been of consistantly excellent quality-they're well worth reading for fans of the series.

What annoys me is that the audience *knows* it isn't real, but they spend so freakin' long on it. The best time I've seen this concept was the two DS9 episodes involving Sisko as a writer back in the 'bad old days'. The writing, acting and directing were all fantastic, while this SGA episode was pretty Mills & Boon overall. "And then he touched her, and she 'felt' him in her dream, and that was when she knew she had the strength to win..." Oh my, Mr Shepard, I do declare you are a most charming man! 

edit: Just finished watching 200. OMG that was freakin funny. Bringing in a new lead, "how about we just talk about the character instead", "how can Enterprise suck so much with THAT many writers", plus the ending where they stick it to Shank's tantrums. "clip shows", "why does this always happen to me!", "That was convienient!", "the 9 month gap", "make it spin", "maybe I should get pregnant", Jack/Daniel fan-fiction...
