Wells Gardner 27K7401 HELP!
« on: August 19, 2006, 01:30:37 pm »
My 27' Wells monitor keeps on getting blurry for a couple of secs and then goes back to being focused.  It constantly keeps on doing this, while it's on.  I can use the monitor and play games on it, but it's just giving me a headache.

Would anyone know what I need to do to fix this?  Should I replace the CAPS?

Thanks,

meedeng

my personal opinion is that you should cap kit it first because it is cheap and advisable BUT i think your flyback maybe on its way out,i would imagine ken has seen this fault a million times so best to wait for his input

I'll go ahead and try to cap kit it first, but I don't want to do that unless I have to.  I just don't want to ruin the board with my inexperienced soldering skills.

But, I think you may be right about the flyback.

Thanks,

caps are well easy, all you do is heat one leg at a time whilst lifting that side gently and then when the cap is out of the circuit desolder the through hole-just always remember which side is positive and negative otherwise your cap will explode covering you in something like fibre glass if you put back in the wrong way :dizzy:

If you just "wiggle" the FOCUS knob on the flyback, does it effect the screen like what you are describing?

Yes, if I wiggle the focus knob it does do exactly what I described above.

So, does that mean the flyback needs to be replaced?  If it does, where can I purchase one?

If you wiggled the focus knob and it acted up, then the focus control inside the flyback must be bad. You can buy the flyback straight from Wells-Gardner, Happ Controls, many local amusement distributors, Bob Roberts, etc.

I found a Flyback for K7400 & K7500 WG Monitor on Happ Controls.  Will this work with a K7401 WG model?

http://arcarc.xmission.com/PDF%20Monitors/Wells%20Gardner%2025k7401-27k7401.pdf
T700
Part No. 053X0651-001
Wells Gradner # according to that data sheet.

But all I've found on Wells parts site for the 7400 and 7500 refers to a 053X671-001. But all of their schematics and manuals show the 053X0651 like the one above.

I shot them an e-mail to ask what the discrepency was about.... I'll let ya know what they say.
A shot in the dark says it's the right one though because there aren't any other options I've found yet from anywhere. They all just say 7400 and 7500.
Unless Ken, grantspain, or anyone else knows for certain it will work.

I'm betting this is what Happs has also. (053X0671-001)(might call to ask them directly)

Thanks Kevin....Please let me know when you find out.

If it does match, I'll go ahead and order it from Bob Roberts.  He is selling the 7400 flyback for $19, which is much cheaper than Happ Controls ($51).

YES, THE NEW PART # FOR THE K7401 FLYBACK IS 053X0671-001. THE REASON FOR THE PART NO. CHANGE IS THAT IT IS A MERITRON FLYBACK. SO IF YOU HAVE A 053X0671-001, IT
