OIDS for the Atari ST
« on: August 17, 2006, 10:19:36 pm »
OIDS was a fantastic game. I used to have it for my Atari ST. Anyone know of a remake for the PC? I know it can be played with an Atari ST emulator, but I'd prefer a PC version.

Thanks.

From Wikipedia:

Quote
Oids, an arcade game, was one of FTL's minor releases. It received little attention with a later conversion to the Apple Macintosh, however the original Atari ST release received rave reviews in the UK, where it remains a cult favourite. Later, after FTL ceased operations, an updated authorized shareware version of Oids for the Macintosh was developed and released by Kirk Baker.

Kirk Baker later made a Mac OSX port

AFAIK, The only official versions are for Atari ST, The Macintosh, And Mac OSX
So, maybe a macintosh emulator or dual boot with OSX?  I heard Choplifter plays similarly, but I guess it's just not the same.  Why is it that you wish to play a PC version?
As far as remakes go, google found this (3-D) OIDS based PC game in beta currently titled "Flash Bios"
developer blog
open beta
The link download link did not work for me.  Maybe one must register or something.  I wonder If they will finish it...

I'm not necessarily looking for an exact clone. Oftentimes, remakes have added features. Also, dealing with emulators is sometimes annoying. Overall, I just wanted to know if there was a remake that I could try.

Thanks.

Have you played Rotor(DOS).  It is of similar play but it doesn't have the little people.  My favorite of this type of game is Solar Jetman for NES.

Wow. I had forgotten all about that game! I owned it for the Mac and probably still have the media here somewhere. Time to dig that out and give it a run. I still have some Macs kicking around so I can skip the emulation I think...

It was kindof a cross between Gravitar and Scramble if I recall.
