voltage spike cps3
« on: August 16, 2006, 12:22:17 pm »
Hello, my Warzard game seems to have been damaged by a voltage spike.
I'm hoping it can be repaired. Which part(s) of the kit would be damaged?
                                       thanks

Apparently blown fuses can cause a Caps Lock situation...beware.
$6.75 the hard way-one quarter at a time.

Hi... the cab has been running fine with mvs & jpac/pc. About the voltage spike, there was no lightning or mains shutdown.
I suspect a voltage spike because I heard a crackle when the game ran.
I was adjusting the volume pot as the game ran. The board moved a little-a tiny distance. I looked at the screen and noticed that the graphics were now corrupted. I turned of the cabinet, turned it on again. I saw a white screen with some coloured squares.
About the fuses, where?
Could the game be repaired? I read that voltage spikes erase the dimm contents.

the crackle you heard was just the pot being adjusted, that will not cause a voltage spike-i suggest you meter your 12v,5v and -5v to the edge connector first, then reseat your boards

Could the Suicide Battery that maintains the decryption/security have died?

hey there
not sure if you resolved your issue or not, but if it was a voltage spike chances are the cart may be toast. The MoBo/CD are no big deal but the cartiridge is. While it may not be as delicate as some people say, a voltage spike certainly would kill it. Sorry bout that man. I hope its working for you and all turned out good. My third strike recently died while having the battery replaced and I can vouch for how much it sucks, especially a game as rare as that. Bummer. I'd be intersted to hear the resolution of what the problem/outcome is. Good luck
