"name comming soon" my first arcade machine
« on: August 17, 2006, 10:47:38 pm »
Ok, well i think when i go off to college i am going to make my first arcade "machine". The reason i put it in quotes, is because when i think of machine, i think of the big bulky ones at arcades. I am going to New Hampshire Technical Institute this fall for electrical engineering technology. You all know the size of dorm rooms, well this is going to be the perfect "machine" for every space. I will try to do up some drawings soon, if i can find some isometric drawing paper online. Heres is how i am going to make my system, as long as i can aford it. The whole system will be bassed around a LCD flatscreen tv with pc inputs. I will be running this mainly off of a pc. I have lots of super nintendo, nintendo, game boy advance, and even n64 roms. The only problem i have right now is i need a program that works on windows xp, that automatically runs on startup, that i can choose my emulator, and my roms. I also would like to encoperate all my actual game systems into it as well. I will install snes, nes, atari, genises, dreamcast, and psx. I would like this to sit flat against a wall, and only stick out about the width of my pc case. it will have an arcade style controler, that will flip down out of a hide away storage. if anyone has any clue about a program i could use on my pc, let me know. thanks

*edit* I also need a name for it, if anyone has some cool ideas let me know. I would like it to have something to do with its size and capabilities, maybee something spanglish. i was thinking something like El Ultimo Dio or something, maybee something that people that dont know spanish might know a little better.

I think that trying to incorporate the acutal game systems into it might be a bit much for the form factor you are looking for, that thing would need to be pretty huge to fit all of those consoles inside of it. Outside of that, you'll pay for minaturization-the money you save on materials will easily get eatten up by trying to make things small enough.
$6.75 the hard way-one quarter at a time.

Form factor aside.... you might take a look at the GameEx front end to handle launching all of your emulators.  Also, Saitek makes some nifty wireless controll pads that should do nicely for your cab.

Honestly, there's lots of front end launchers that will do the job. The great thing is, they're all free to try. Just go to the BYOAC Wikipedia and check 'em out.
