Converting ROMs to a newer version of MAME?
« on: August 02, 2006, 04:07:22 pm »
I know that ClrMamePro will do this, but I have no idea how to use that program.  I have this version of MAME:

MAME32Plus version 106u13

And the ROMs I downloaded (12 gigs of stuff) are supposedly MAME 1.03.  How do I use ClrMAMEPro to convert these 1.03 ROMs to 1.06?  If there is a page that will do this step by step, please let me know.

EasyEmu is a little old on clrmame, but still (mostly) valid.  It steps you through the steps quite well.

I recommeded to use that mame, you have the roms for. They may been changed for a never version.

Simply change the url from mame.net to download that mame version, you have roms for:

http://www.mame.net/zips/mame0103b.zip (you may need to click to www.mame.net, and then copy&paste).

Otherwice you may try romcenter (http://www.romcenter.com/) to check off all roms.

OK, I did that and it seems to be working better, but some of my newer games are not supported, like SVC Chaos and Samurai Shodown V.

Is there any way I can "update" MAME 1.03 to be able to play the newest games?

That's a lot harder than using clrMamePro & the current mame.  You would need to patch and edit the source backwards in a peice meal fashion that would require you to know the mame source very well, especially with all the changes between then and now.
