D9200 horizontal shift
« on: July 29, 2006, 09:59:21 pm »
I'm having a weird problem with my D9200 and I'm not quite sure where to begin.  The picture on it looks fine, but it has this tendency to quickly shift to the right about 1-2 inches.  A few seconds later it goes back.  The funny thing is I can make it do this by hitting the cabinet, without a whole lot of force.  I'm not even quite sure where to look for this one, but I have to figure something is loose somewhere if hitting the cab causing it.  Anyone have any idea where to look on the monitor?  Thanks.

I've never messed with one of those in particular, but I hear they are plagued with bad solder joints.
If you can actually thump it and make it do that, then it's a bad connection or solder joint on the chassis components.
Not a technician . . . . just a DIY'er.

I kind of suspected something like that.  Sounds reasonable.  Anyone have any idea where the horizontal circuit on the D9200 is to know which solder connect to mess with?

could be anywhere, the fault doesn't have to be on that part of the circuit to cause a problem with that circuit-you are gonna have to look at the chassis carefully all over

Technically, you can follow the red wire on the yoke back and find the circuit that way, but realistically you should just examine every inch of the chassis and touch up any bad solder joints you find.  I imagine there are many.
