Second Attempt at Making a MaLa Layout
« on: July 29, 2006, 01:18:12 pm »
Well here's my second attempt at making a layout in MaLa.  I'm much happier with this one.  Any additional suggestions would be appreciated.

In case anyone is wondering why I'm going with the Donkey Kong theme its because this will be going in a Donkey Kong cabinet that I just completed.  Its over on the project announcement page.  I finished the cabinet to original specifications.  I am currently running a PC in it until I get around to picking up the boards to make it a dedicated machine (I'm enjoying running all the vertical zero/one button games on it though so it might be a while  :)).  Until that time I would like a layout that will mesh well with the cabinet.

Additionally, Youki with AtomicFE has been very helpful with me in reference to his frontend and may help me to get a Donkey Kong themed layout ported into one of his modules.  Havok recommened him and I can see why.

Great use of the barrels in the background. That's exactly what I was talking about.

Why would you make a dedicated machine?

I get that you want it to be a Kong Machine, but at least running through mame you can get all the variants (Crazy Kong/ Donkey Kong/ Donkey Kong Jr, Donkey Kong and the Temple of doom (Ok I made that last one up :-)   )

Cabs take up so much space for just one game  :-)

Well my original intention was to have four or five dedicated machines along with an all in one Mame / Daphne Cabinet.  I'm leaning towards just keeping the computer in it at this point knowing that I can add a board at anytime.  I would like to add a PacMan, Galaga, and Cliff Hanger (ugly cabinet but I love the game) to my collection.  Just need to move into a bigger house which we plan on doing in the next year or so.

I wouldn't have a problem with it.  You can keep all my frontends up and running for me  :).  We bought our current house four years ago.  We told ourselves that at five years we would look for something bigger.  We want to have a gameroom and a home theater room in whatever we buy.
