Portable DVD player...
« on: July 27, 2006, 01:33:34 pm »
I have a portable DVD player with a 7" or 9" monitor on it...the unit no longer works (no power from with battery or AC adapter)...it would probably cost me more to get it fixed, than to buy new...SOOOO, I'm thinking I could tear it out and use it for arcade purposes...
Anyone know enough about how these things are made to be able to tell me if I could hook it up to a PC or not??  I'd rather not take it apart,  if I already know it won't work...
Thanks...

Matt

These small LCD screens are usually driven by custom video processing hardware, so trying to hook it up directly to something like a VCR would most likely do zip.

If you do pull it apart, see if you can find a model number somewhere on it and google it. You may find there is some nutter out there who has gone through some convoluted process to hook a same LCD screen to a PC.

Sound like fun.
Now in a tasty new flavour.

The first unit I had like this had a Video in jack. Would be quite easy to put a PC video-out into that. But then the unit has to work of course....however most of these things have 16:9 screens...
