how to play puzzle fighter?
« on: March 12, 2003, 09:57:33 pm »
Could someone please explain to me how to use puzzle fighter?  I understand how it works with making pieces go away and whatnot, but I always seem to be winning...then all of a sudden I get nailed with 8,000 pieces from the other guy...what the dirt!
Game programmers do not play games for a living.  Would you say a mechanic drives cars for a living?

The gems you make disappear with one drop, the more get sent over the the over guy.  The bigger the "complete" gems, the more gets set over.  The more chains you do in one drop, the more gets sent over to the over guy.  It's better to make 10 squares disappear on one drop than on two; it's even better if 9 of those are joined into one 3x3 gem before they disappear.

Also, the gems you and the other guy send are in patterns.  So if you give the other guy a lot of gems but don't finish 'em off, they can send even more than you sent in the first place.

So, build big gems, set up chains, and watch the other guy.  Know the pattern he sends you (each character has it's own pattern) and use it to your advantage.  Then finish him off in a quick series.  Don't slowly give him small bits and pieces for him to build big gems and set up chains.

I bet gamefaqs.com has more hints.

Puzzle Fighter is my favorite game in HISTORY! There are some pretty wierd concepts you will learn by doing latter on like a super gem thingy (I can't remember what it is called, but it breaks all of the blocks of 1 color) makes chains of a color innefective. So if you have a HUGE red combo and put that thing off on red each block will only count as one.

Yup, those supers are good only if you're in deep trouble, or want to join into a huge gem, say, a bunch of greens separated by hard to get to reds (and drop it on a red).  Otherwise you're just wasting all the power you spent the effort building up.  If you drop the super gem on the bottem (ie: not on a gem) you get a few extra points, though.

Yeah they call it a tech bonus but it is VERY few points.

I will rule all of yall in Super Gem Fighter.  ;D

That is one awesome game. The Killer List of Video Games even has a couple of cheat codes for it, but my favorite character is Morigan anyways.

My friends hate it when I beat them one handed while talking on the phone. BOW TO ALAN!!!
