Hiding Windows Environment [How to Reduce Pain]
« on: July 26, 2006, 03:13:59 pm »
Hello...

I am Surprised,,,Every One is Happy with Doing REGISTRY HACKS manually...
No One Made a REGISTRY PATCH setup for users...

I just seen a Installer Utility at GAMEEX official site...But it also require Dotnet Framework to install....

Why don't any one Make a Complete Setup Like that...

Can any one tell me...?

I think the truth of the matter is that the process is so terribly dangerous that if you don't understand what you're doing you're liable to end up with a brick for a PC.

I can't imagine anyone wants to deal with the kind of tech support issues that could occur if your machine stopped booting because you used some "easy" installer. Until there's an agreeably safe way to manage hiding Windows I doubt you'll see any all in one package for setting it up that doesn't include installing a whole new copy of Windows (think AdvanceCD).

Well in xp at least, the shell replacement isn't dangerous at all. If it doesn't work, windows is still back there, it's just explorer hasn't loaded.  So do the three finger salute and when task manager comes up start a new process and type "explorer.exe"  Poof!  explorer is back and you can un-do what you did.

I know the exact way for Hiding Windows as you all...

I am curious that The FrontEndWorld is going so Advanced but No one Providing a BuiltIn Support or Utility to patch Registry....

It is not Dangerous for any One...To setup a FrontEnd with an Emulator and to Build Up a Cab is not a Childs Play...
Every One knows whatsevery he is doing with an Operating System...

If we have to Build Multiple Cab then it takes too long Just for Hiding Stuff, almost Irritate people to do the same thing again and again...

The Definition of Hiding Widnows is Similar for All Users...All Registry Hacks are Exactly the Same for everyone...

I don't know but i think Many of  the great Programers can easily make a Utility for "Hiding Windows Environment" But no one is Intrested...

Only One person from GameEx FrontEnd made a utility named "Instand Sheller", I like the Sprit of this man...

They are Happy to play with Nonsence registry values... :(

Putting a FrontEnd as shell is one thing.   (Very easy and not too risky).

Hiding really windows is another chalenge.  You have to deal with windows version, service pack version, and for 2000 and XP , you have to hack resource from on .Exe file. (to change loading image) .  That's no so trivial.
I did this kind of tool for my own usage few year ago (on win2000). But i only manage my window version and i won't take the risk (in the state of the program right now) to distribute it.  The resource Hacking required too much constraint and check. If you put a too big image when you replace the existing one, you can corrupt the exe and windows won't start anymore.
In addition of that , as you are running under windows, you can not access to the file from the session you are. You have to copy it, modify the copy , replace it after. etc...  so lot of thing to take in account.
It is doable of course, but not so easy you think.  And surely not without risk.

So, now, may be there is another way , just changing some registry stuff, but i don't know that way. Is there? I spoke about Win XP and 2000 , not 98 where it is lot more easy.

The changes are relatively simple - you don't need to program to make them. How about you create a batch script to take care of this?

Yes, why don't you? Create the script (it doesn't take any programming so it shouldn't be hard) and then offer support. You will save a lot of people a lot of time (based on the extent of the wiki entry for this subject!).

Yeah don't misunderstand... changing the shell and tweaking 30 or so processes and registry values to get better performance/hide stuff/ect are two different things.  Also the thing about tweaks is something that will make something faster on one machine can make it slower, or break something on another.

Nobody fools with a "change shell" app for two reasons:

1.  It's really easy to do.
2.  There are other apps out there already, besides instant sheller... just do a google search.

Ok...

I got the answer...
I am intrested to know about the Complete Software setup for a CAB,Including Operating System + Tweaking + Hiding Stuff + Changing Shell ....

It is quite obvious that users need a complete Guide [Excellent Software]setup for making thier Cab...

Here we should a Platform for All Users to Follow the Same [Best] route,Just Before Entering in FrontEnd...

I will try to write a Tutorial which Includes all Essential GuideLines which are previously define by many of our Members here...

You can assume it "Most Preferable WindowsXp Setup" for a Cab...
It will be a very Smallest but Reliable to Load a FrontEnd in few Seconds...
